Operating in 31 retail stores across remote locations, CEQ ensures access to quality fresh food, groceries, and essential services like fuel, gas, and ATM facilities.
Your role will be based in the busy and culturally diverse Cairns Support Office, with occasional travel to other locations, often involving small air and watercraft and unique experiences in Country.

Summary
Are you ready for a travelling role where you can have a tangible impact on public health nutrition outcomes and work alongside First Nations remote communities?
Community Enterprise Queensland (CEQ) is seeking a passionate Store Nutritionist to join our Nutrition & Health team. Based in Cairns, this unique role offers the opportunity to travel regularly to the Torres Strait Islands and remote mainland communities across North Queensland, working alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander team members and community to create healthier food environments.
You’ll play a key role in the exciting new First Nations Nutrition Workforce Program, funded by the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA),
to develop and deliver healthy retail strategies to support healthier food environment in community stores.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include (other duties may be assigned):
- Travel to remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in North Queensland to operationalise the Nutrition and Health Strategy 2023–2027.
- Deliver targeted nutrition training to First Nations team members employed in the Good Food People (GFP) program.
- Mentor First Nations GFP trainees.
- Conduct regular assessments of healthy store environments.
- Provide practical, expert advice on nutrition.
- Prepare reports and monitor key performance indicators relevant to the Nutrition & Health Strategy 2023-2027 and Nutrition Workforce Program.
- Collaborate with other CEQ departments and team members to build nutrition capacity and support nutrition policy compliance in order to deliver healthy changes to food range, store layout, planograms, promotions, and ready-to-eat food.
- Establish and maintain partnerships with community agencies, local health organisations, and nutrition teams to promote healthier choices.
- Support the implementation and evaluation of the CEQ Healthy Ways health promotion campaign and local in‑store promotions, including cooking demonstrations, taste‑testing, and the development of menus and recipes that use readily available products.
- Develop digital communication and health promotion materials to support healthy messaging.
- Work collaboratively within the nutrition team and provide peer support to the First Nations Nutrition Cadet and other team members.
- Monitor workplace health and safety to ensure staff safety and a safe working environment.
- Other reasonable duties as requested by Senior Leadership in the Office of CEO.
Essential Requirements
- A degree in Nutrition Science and/or Dietetics (mandatory).
- Experience in public health nutrition, ideally with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Strong communication skills across diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.
- Ability to work in a cross-cultural team environment.
- Passion for mentoring and building capacity in others
- Willingness to travel and work in remote communities.
- Current Criminal History check (no more than 3 months old).
Desirable Qualifications
- Postgraduate qualifications in Public Health, experience in remote regions, training roles, or retail/food service.
