About the role
The precast installation erector works with a team to perform tasks involved in the installation of precast concrete. This includes wall panels, beams, columns and etc. Position requires travel to and from job sites where long hours are involved.
Key responsibilities include:
Pre-Erection Duties
- Assist with unloading and organising precast panels.
- Inspect panels for transport damage.
- Identify panel numbers against erection drawings.
- Prepare lifting equipment and lifting clutches.
- Check cast-in lifting anchors and ferrules.
- Assist with crane set-up and exclusion zones.
- Install temporary edge protection where required.
- Prepare braces, props and fixing equipment.
- Ensure work areas are clean and safe before lifting operations.
- Participate in daily pre-start meetings and safety briefings.
Erection Duties
- Assist the crane crew with lifting and placing precast panels.
- Guide panels into position using tag lines.
- Install temporary braces and props.
- Bolt and secure connection plates.
- Install grout packs and bearing pads.
- Assist with welding preparation where required.
- Maintain communication with the crane operator and dogman.
- Follow all lifting procedures and Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS).
- Maintain safe work practices at all times.
Post-Erection Duties
- Tighten and inspect temporary braces.
- Install permanent connections where directed.
- Patch minor concrete defects.
- Clean completed work areas.
- Remove waste materials.
- Assist with panel alignment checks.
- Assist with final inspections.
- Prepare site for following day's installation.
- Demobilise equipment safely.
General Duties
- Follow all Company Policies and Procedures.
- Comply with all Workplace Health & Safety requirements.
- Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Attend toolbox meetings.
- Maintain company equipment and tools.
- Work professionally with builders, subcontractors and clients.
- Perform any other reasonable duties as directed by Management.
Skills & Experience
Preferred (but not essential):
- Construction Industry White Card.
- Working at Heights (preferred).
- Elevated Work Platform (EWP) licence (preferred).
- Dogging or Rigging experience (advantage).
- Forklift Licence (advantage).
- Experience in precast concrete or structural steel erection.
- Ability to read construction drawings.
- Good communication skills.
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
Physical Requirements
This role involves:
- Heavy manual handling.
- Working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Working at heights.
- Climbing ladders and scaffolding.
- Repetitive lifting.
- Standing for extended periods.
Applicants must be physically fit and capable of performing manual construction work.
