Human Resources Coordinator

Lead a capable HR team. Deliver our workforce strategy. Shape better people practices across Council.

- Permanent full-time position – 35 hours per week
- 19-day month with one RDO every four weeks
- Grade N – $4,209.70-$4,737.70 gross per fortnight plus superannuation
- Based in Mudgee, NSW

Mid-Western Regional Council is seeking an experienced and solutions-focused Human Resources Coordinator to lead the delivery of contemporary HR services across our diverse organisation.

Reporting to the Manager People and Performance, you will lead and develop the Human Resources team while providing trusted, practical advice to supervisors and managers. You will also play a key role in achieving the objectives and delivering the priority actions and projects set out in Council’s Workforce Management Strategy.

This is a hands-on leadership role combining complex employee relations, team management, policy development, workforce planning, project delivery and continuous improvement.

A day in the life

You’ll work across a broad range of HR priorities, balancing day-to-day operational needs with project that supports Council’s people and Workforce Management Strategy.

No two days will look the same in this role, you might start the morning checking in with the HR team and helping to prioritise current recruitment, employee relations and workforce projects. From there, you could coach a manager through a performance matter, interpret an industrial instrument, review an HR procedure or prepare advice on a sensitive workplace issue.

Your afternoon may involve progressing a project under Council’s Workforce Management Strategy, consulting with stakeholders, or reporting on progress and outcomes to the Manager People and Performance.

You will balance immediate operational needs with longer-term initiatives that build workforce capability, improve the employee experience and support Council to achieve its strategic objectives. About This Role

In this role, you will:

- Lead, support and develop the HR team, setting clear priorities and ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality HR services;
- Drive the objectives, actions and priority projects set out in Council’s Workforce Management Strategy, monitoring progress and reporting on outcomes;
- Provide trusted, practical and risk-aware advice to managers on complex employee relations, performance, disciplinary and workplace matters;
- Coach managers and HR team members to strengthen people-management capability and support fair, consistent decision-making;
- Lead the development and continuous improvement of HR policies, procedures, systems and service delivery;
- Interpret and apply employment legislation, industrial instruments and Council policies in a complex workplace environment;
- Be visible, approachable and customer-focused HR driven, proactively engaging with employees, leaders and business areas to understand their needs, identify opportunities and provide timely, practical and tailored support; and
- Identify emerging workforce trends and risks, turning these insights into practical recommendations and improvements.

About you

You are an experienced generalist HR professional who can combine sound technical knowledge with practical judgement and a genuine commitment to supporting others.

You will bring:

- demonstrated generalist HR experience across employee relations, performance management, policy development, employee engagement and learning and development;
- experience managing complex and sensitive workplace matters, including disciplinary processes and union engagement;
- demonstrated experience delivering workforce initiatives, organisational projects or strategic HR actions;
- a tertiary qualification in human resources or a related discipline, or equivalent senior HR experience;
- sound knowledge of employment legislation and industrial instruments;
- demonstrated experience leading,



coaching and developing an HR team;
- strong project management, analytical, problem-solving and prioritisation skills;
- well-developed written and verbal communication skills;
- the confidence to provide clear, balanced and solutions-focused advice;
- a current Class C driver’s licence; and
- a strong commitment to integrity, accountability and workplace safety.
- An ability to obtain a criminal history check

Experience in local government will be highly regarded but is not essential. Candidates with strong HR leadership experience from other complex, multidisciplinary or regulated organisations are encouraged to apply.
