About the role
The Youth Clinician will have a direct role in the engagement and coordination of care for young people. Reporting to the Regional Manager and Clinical Lead, the Youth Clinician's key responsibilities include:
- Provide early intervention mental health services to young people and their family (as appropriate), including receiving and processing referrals
- Conduct assessments with young people and their families and friends using agreed tools to determine services required by the young person
- Deliver evidence-based brief interventions, including group interventions, psychoeducation, and skills training, with young people and their families
- Liaise with relevant referrers and other services to promote a consistent and coordinated service delivery response for young people and their families
- Participate in regular clinical case review meetings and multi-disciplinary team meetings to ensure appropriate clinical service pathway and service delivery
- Develop and implement case formulations and care plans in collaboration with young people, Albany Clinicians and other services where involved
- Engage with the community to promote early intervention and seeking help for mental and general health issues
About the practice
We are a for-purpose organisation that creates brighter futures for young people in Western Australia by offering a range of no-cost mental health services. Established in 1994, we deliver cutting-edge and accessible mental health services and programs across Western Australia to help at-risk young people aged 12 to 25. A key component of this is our role as the lead agency for a number of headspace centres including our dynamic headspace Albany Centre, located on Minang Noongar Country.
Experience and qualifications required
- Relevant tertiary qualifications (bachelors or higher) in Social Work, Psychology, OT,
Mental Health Nursing or Counselling and current full registration/membership with a professional body
- Experience providing Single Session Intervention or Brief Intervention to young people with the ability to undertake screening and assessment to determine young person's needs level of risk and to refer to other services as appropriate
- Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, government policies and strategic directions in relation to mental health and alcohol and other drug disorders, particularly as it relates to young people
- Demonstrated experience and ability to engage work with and coordinate care for young people aged 12 to 25 years in areas of mental health and substance use intervention
- Experience and competence working with vulnerable groups, including those who identify as LGBTQIA+, Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, young men or CaLD.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and effectively within a multi-disciplinary team
- Willingness to work one late shift till 8:00pm (Tuesday or Wednesday)
- ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence and willingness to travel as required
