The Role
The Vocational Specialist position supports the (IPS) Coordinator within the Individual Placement and Support Program to provide vocational assistance to young people with mental illness up to the age of 25 within the Joondalup area.
The successful person will work with young people who experience barriers to employment and /or education to support them in achieving their education or vocational goals. 65 percent of the Vocational Specialist workday will involve actively engaging with outreach components of Youth Engagement, to secure suitable employment and/or training and educational opportunities.
The Vocational Specialist will work with employers, training providers, and educational institutions, Services Australia and community-based organisations to support and advocate on behalf of the young people.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Position
§ Provide specialist individualised career assistance tailored to each participants preferences, choices and goals.
§ Develop and monitor individual Career Plans for IPS participants including strategies to overcome identified barriers to engagement in employment and/or education.
§ Provide regular support to participants via case management/case work practices and review progression against Career Plan.
§ Work with the Individual Placement and Support Coordinator to develop partnerships with external organisations that increase access to vocational opportunities for young people.
§ Liaise with headspace team regarding the young person’s progress within the IPS program and their Career Plans.
§ Promote the Individual Placement and Support program, and the young people looking for work, to a broad range of employers.
§ Assist with the development of vocational marketing materials to promote the Individual Placement and Support program.
§ Maintain timely and accurate case notes for clients using electronic clinical records systems
The successful candidate will have
- Minimum 3 years relevant experience in Youth Work, Social Work, Health or Community services.
- Demonstrated experience in employment services, vocational rehabilitation, career development or a related field.
- Extensive knowledge of issues impacting young people when accessing employment and/or educational opportunities.
- Proven ability to act autonomously as well as work collaboratively with other clinicians.
- A demonstrated ability to display empathy, understanding,
patience and kindness toward vulnerable young people always.
- Tertiary Qualifications, such as Youth Work, Social Work, relevant health qualifications, and relevant professional registrations as required.
- Experience working in the mental health sector, and with young people.
- Experience developing business relationships that positively impact young people.
- Knowledge of Centrelink and other State and Federal employment initiatives that impact young people.
- National Police Clearance.
- Working with Children Check.
- Current driver’s licence and own vehicle for work purposes.
- Current eligibility to work in Australia.
