The Team

The Department of Gastroenterology is seeking interest from suitably qualified, enthusiastic Gastroenterologists to join our team at Royal Hobart Hospital.

Royal Hobart Hospital is Tasmania’s largest hospital and major referral centre. As the major clinical teaching and research centre, RHH collaborates with the University of Tasmania and other institutions. All our services work closely together to focus on delivering excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, our workforce, and the Tasmanian community.

The Role

- Provide a consultant role in Gastroenterology.
- Provide inpatient and outpatient care to public and private patients of the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) in Gastroenterology.
- Be involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and to be actively involved in research.
- Undertake quality improvement activities.

You will need

This is an exciting opportunity to be a member of a busy, friendly team in Gastroenterology at the Royal Hobart Hospital.

- We are looking for a qualified Staff Specialist in Gastroenterology.
- FRACP is desirable.
- The position would suit someone with broad experience in Endoscopy/Colonoscopy and OP clinics.
- We can support subspeciality interests.
- There is possibility of on call and in patient work if so desired.

Details of appointment

Fixed term full time, day worker position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from as soon as you would like to join our team until December 2027.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time and casual vacancies.

Salary

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $222,789 - $319,701 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging

Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $309,222 - $319,701 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award

- Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2025

In addition, the following allowances and benefit, calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

- Salary packaging options include a range of benefits like living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 in meals and entertainment every year
- Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle or motor vehicle allowance of $30,254 per annum, pro rata
- Subject to approval from the Private Patient Scheme Committee (PPS), 35% of base salary plus on-call, pro rata) of additional payment will be paid from (PPS). If not admitted to the PPS, a 35% in lieu of PPS of base salary will be paid
- Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $17,483 per annum, pro rata
- Travel and relocation assistance support is available
- Professional development and accelerated pathways.
- A range of leave entitlements, including study leave and Professional Development Support.
- Fitness Passport – You, and your family can access 40+ fitness facilities across Tasmania for just $14.50 per week per person, or $28.05 for a family.
- other allowances as applicable.

Eligibility

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

- Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

- Experience in assessment of motility disorders including oesophageal manometry/pH testing would be desirable but not essential




- Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of Physicians (RACP) is desirable
