The Calf Rearer, reporting to the Senior Leader, is responsible for providing daily care of the calf rearing area, ensuring animals are provided with the best possible nutrition, environment, and care.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain a clean and secure workspace, and abide by workplace health and safety policies and procedures
- Wear all protective clothing and use the safety equipment provided
- Regularly assess the farm and activities to identify any significant hazards
- Safely handle animals and report observations on the wellbeing of all stock to the Senior Leader
- Exercise special care when feeding animals, ensuring they are given the best possible nutrition in a timely manner
- Observe calves for any ill health, isolate sick calves and provide reports to Senior Leader
- Administer treatment to unwell calves and implement rehab programs for young stock
- Maintain a clean and tidy environment to a high standard, ensuring all feeding equipment is disinfected and bedding is regularly refreshed
- Identify calves for transport that are fit and healthy for the journey
- Lift new-born calves on and off the trailer carefully when moving calves from the calving area to the calf shed
About you
- C Class Driver's License (essential)
- High level of animal husbandry skills and knowledge (essential)
