This is a pivotal role within our Purchasing, Procurement and Inventory function, responsible for managing category strategy, supplier relationships, and procurement operations for our retail operations.
You will play a crucial role in optimising our supply chain, driving cost efficiencies, and ensuring the availability of quality products that meet our operational and customer requirements.
This position reports into senior procurement leadership and directly impacts our commercial performance and service delivery across the retail division.Key responsibilitiesDevelop and implement comprehensive category strategies aligned with business objectives, identifying opportunities for cost savings, quality improvements, and supplier innovationManage supplier relationships, including contract negotiations, performance monitoring, and quality assurance activities to ensure compliance with organisational standardsAnalyse market trends, competitor activity,



and supply chain dynamics to inform procurement decisions and maintain competitive positioningLead cross-functional collaboration with operations, finance, and quality teams to ensure effective category management and service deliveryMonitor inventory levels, manage stock rotation, and implement systems to optimise inventory turnover whilst minimising wasteEvaluate and select suppliers based on quality, cost, reliability, and alignment with organisational values and sustainability commitmentsPrepare and present category reports, business cases, and recommendations to senior management regarding procurement activities and cost management initiativesEnsure compliance with procurement policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements across all category management activitiesIdentify and implement process improvements within the procurement function to enhance efficiency and effectivenessWhat we're looking forMinimum 5+ years of category management experience, preferably within retail, rapid-moving consumer goods (FMCG), or large-scale procurement environmentsProven expertise in supplier management, contract negotiation, and strategic procurement practicesStrong analytical skills with proficiency in data analysis, cost modelling,



and market research to inform procurement decisionsExcellent stakeholder management abilities with demonstrated experience communicating effectively with senior leadership and cross-functional teamsKnowledge of inventory management principles, supply chain optimisation, and logistics coordinationExperience with procurement systems and enterprise resource planning (ERP) softwareTertiary qualification in business, commerce, procurement, supply chain management or related field, or equivalent professional experienceProfessional certification such as Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) membership or similar is advantageousStrong negotiation skills, commercial acumen, and the ability to drive results in a fast-paced environmentCommitment to sustainability and ethical business practicesWhat we offerWe are committed to supporting the wellbeing, growth, and development of our employees.
