Career Progression: Build your technical capability and progress your accounting career with structured support, feedback and mentoring from experienced senior accountants.Professional Development: Expand your experience across trusts, companies, individuals and complex client group structures.Supportive Team: Join a collaborative, office-based team that values accuracy, professionalism, initiative and continuous improvement.ABOUT USThe Coghlan Group delivers a wide range of services to clients across Australia, including tax and accounting, residential and commercial construction, roadworks, real estate, financial planning, wealth management, and mortgage broking.Due to ongoing growth, our Tax and Accounting division, Accountancy Plus, is expanding and seeking a capable Tax Accountant to join our team in Helensvale.ABOUT THE ROLEAs a Tax Accountant at Accountancy Plus, you will prepare financial statements, tax returns, compliance workpapers and supporting documentation for a diverse client base.You will work across individuals, trusts and companies, including multi-entity client groups involving discretionary and unit trusts, corporate trustees, bucket companies and individual beneficiaries.Reporting to a Senior Accountant, you will receive structured workflow guidance, review feedback and ongoing development to strengthen your technical skills and support your career progression.This is a full-time, permanent and fully office-based position located in Helensvale.RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:Preparing year-end financial statements and tax returns for individuals,
trusts and companiesPreparing comprehensive workpapers and reconciling balance sheet and inter-entity loan accountsSupporting trust distribution calculations and documenting beneficiary entitlementsIdentifying and escalating potential compliance issues, including Division 7A and unpaid present entitlement risksPreparing and reviewing BAS and IAS workpapers and draft lodgementsReviewing bookkeeping records and correcting coding, GST and reconciliation issuesUndertaking occasional bookkeeping work where requiredConducting face-to-face client meetings to prepare and finalise individual tax returnsManaging assigned work to agreed quality standards, deadlines and productivity expectationsMaintaining accurate, organised and confidential client filesABOUT YOUThe ideal candidate will have:A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Commerce or a related disciplineAt least three years of Australian public practice accounting experienceExperience preparing financial statements and tax returns for individuals, trusts and companiesA sound understanding of Australian income tax fundamentals and small business structuresExperience preparing or reviewing BAS and IAS workStrong Xero skills and confidence using accounting and document management systemsStrong Excel skills and the ability to prepare clear, well-organised workpapersHigh attention to detail and robust analytical and problem-solving skillsThe ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines and work independently within a teamClear written and verbal communication skillsUnrestricted working rights in AustraliaExperience with SMSFs, trust distributions, Division 7A and multi-entity group structures will be highly regarded.
