Government to Federal (Government and Defence)ConservationExhibitionOngoing to Part Time to APS4 and APS579,125 to 96,829Campbell, ACTThe RoleThe textile conservator contributes to the professional conservation, preservation and storage of items from the National Collection.
The primary work of this position is the on-going survey, treatment, preservation and maintenance programs for a range of textiles and related materials including uniforms, flags, medals, leather, plastics and rubber and associated hazards.
The conservator assists in the development and implementation of new and improved conservation processes and techniques; documents work performed; may supervise other staff and prepares items for access, storage and exhibition and contributes to team, section and Memorial activities.Note: Tertiary qualifications in conservation are highly desirable.This role is available on either a part time (3 days per week) or full-time basis.Core ResponsibilitiesUnder general direction from the Senior Conservator, Textiles:Use established and innovative techniques and procedures to carry out conservation and preservation treatments on a range of textile and related objects including uniforms and accessories, flags and colours, medal ribbons (including medal mounting), leather, plastic, rubber and other mixed media items identified as corporate priorities for new acquisitions, exhibitions, loans,
storage and other preservation programs including hazard mitigationDocument all conservation and preservation activities on the Memorial's Collection Management SystemUndertake scientific analysis, testing and research to determine composition, condition and deterioration processes of the Memorial's collection as requiredAssist in the supervision of other staff and assist with their training and developmentAssist in the development of new conservation techniques and practicesParticipate in multi-disciplinary teams to deliver conservation programs including gallery maintenance and integrated pest managementProvide conservation and preservation advice to other sections of the Memorial, professional colleagues and to the publicConduct manual handling tasks including movement of a wide range of objects including but not limited to textiles and related collection itemsUnder section 22(8) of the Public Service Act ****, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS).
