Queensland Corrective Services – Mareeba QLDIn this role you will control the daily operations of a high-volume kitchen within a Correctional Centre.The primary accountabilities of the Trade Instructor, Caterer include:Supervise the behaviour and activities of prisoners on a daily basis in accordance with the centre/facility's routineDevelop productive relationships with staff, management, professionals, police and other agenciesAssist in the rehabilitation of prisoners by participating in or overseeing their work or activities and contributing to case management functions within the centreIdentify prisoners who may be at risk and advise relevant staff in a timely mannerInteract with prisoners and respond to their needs through the provision of services in an appropriate manner within relevant guidelines and rulesEncourage prisoners to participate in programs to maximise their opportunities for rehabilitationReport details or incidents and behaviour of prisoners for the purpose of the sentence management processParticipate in the reception, induction and discharge of prisoners in accordance with proceduresAssess prisoner needs prior to action and take into account traditional cultural valuesPrepare reports on relevant activities and maintain appropriate recordsPerform other administrative duties as requiredPrepare relevant reports on trade and/or industry activitiesMaintain training and other recordsPerform other administrative duties required in the effective management of the UnitMonitor and maintain the dynamic and static security requirements of the correctional centre or facility,
reporting any unusual behaviours or occurrences which could result in a breach of securityUndertake searches and perform escort duties of prisoners both within the centre and externally when requiredEnsure you respond to emergency or security breaches in accordance with prescribed procedures and processesPrepare and submit accurate incident reports/ statements/ records concerning notifiable incidentsIdentify and respond appropriately to potential security risks and illegal activityProvide reports concerning equipment damage, defects or loss and maintain accurate administration recordsRestrain and control non-compliant prisoners in accordance with policies and guidelines and ensure participate in annual training in control and restraint to maintain competenceParticipate in all training as directed by the Agency including the ongoing maintenance and current competence of all qualifications including, but not limited to Certificate III in Correctional Practice (Custodial) and other annual training requirementsMaintain a professional level of appearance at all times by wearing the QCS issued uniform in accordance with Agency uniform standardsComply with all QCS policy, procedures and legislation including the applicable Code of ConductPrepare meals in accordance with the centre's requirements and take into account budgetary considerations and dietary guidelinesAssist in the preparation of an operational plan, budget estimates and the effective budget management for industries cost centres.Actively participate in procurement process and stock control procedures.Provide relevant training and education to prisoners including but not limited to the protected operation of kitchen equipment and all Food Safety Program activities and proceduresLiaise with management in relation to the employment of prisoners in the kitchen areaDevelop food handling protocols which meet food safety guidelinesMonitor kitchen equipment ensuring it is maintained in accordance with health and safety principlesThe role description provides the minimum requirements for the role.
