In this role you will Control the daily operations of a business unit (including commercial units where relevant) within a Correctional Centre.
Supervise prisoners on a daily basis and actively participate in their rehabilitation through work and program activities and monitor and maintain the security of the correctional centre.The primary accountabilities of the Trade Instructor include:Supervise the behaviour and activities of prisoners on a daily basis in accordance with the centre/facility's routineDevelop productive relationships with staff, management, professionals, police and other agenciesAssist in the rehabilitation of prisoners by participating in or overseeing their work or activities and contributing to case management functions within the centreIdentify prisoners who may be at risk and advise relevant staff in a timely mannerInteract with prisoners and respond to their needs through the provision of services in an appropriate manner within relevant guidelines and rulesEncourage prisoners to participate in programs to maximise their opportunities for rehabilitationReport details or incidents and behaviour of prisoners for the purpose of the sentence management processParticipate in the reception, induction and discharge of prisoners in accordance with proceduresAssess prisoner needs prior to action and giving consideration to traditional cultural valuesPrepare reports on relevant activities and maintain appropriate recordsPerform other administrative duties as requiredMonitor and maintain the agile and static security requirements of the correctional centre or facility,



reporting any unusual behaviours or occurrences which could result in a breach of securityUndertake searches and perform escort duties of prisoners both within the centre and externally when requiredEnsure you respond to emergency or security breaches in accordance with prescribed procedures and processesPrepare and submit accurate incident reports/ statements/ records concerning notifiable incidentsIdentify and respond appropriately to potential security risks and illegal activityProvide reports concerning equipment damage, defects or loss and maintain accurate administration recordsRestrain and control non-compliant prisoners in accordance with policies and guidelines and ensure participate in annual training in control and restraint to maintain competenceParticipate in all training as directed by the Agency including the ongoing maintenance and current competence of all qualifications including, but not limited to Certificate III in Correctional Practice (Custodial) and other annual training requirementsMaintain a professional appearance at all times by wearing the QCS issued uniform in accordance with Agency uniform standardsComply with all QCS policy, procedures and legislation including the applicable Code of ConductProvide training to prisoners in relation to workshop and/or industry activitiesCoordinate and schedule prisoner activities to achieve quality and production targetsImplement and maintain prisoner employee induction processesOversee and guide prisoners in the production of a variety or goods and servicesLiaise with centre management staff in relation to the employment of prisoners in the industries areaContribute to the provision of a protected environment for prisoners and staff by ensuring safe operating practices are adhered toAssist in the preparation of an operational plan, budget estimates and the effective budget management for industries financial resourcesActively participate in procurement processes and stock control procedures
