About the role
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate
Cook
to join our culinary team on a
permanent
part-time basis
in Rosanna, VIC on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7.00am to 3.00pm (30 hours per f/n). This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our residents by preparing nutritious, delicious and specialised meals tailored to their dietary and health requirements. You will be responsible for creating an exceptional dining experience that supports the wellbeing and quality of life of our aged care community, working within our modern kitchen facilities to deliver meals that meet the highest standards of nutrition, hygiene and presentation. There is also an opportunity to supplement your part time role to work as a
Kitchen Hand
on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays on a
3 month limited tenure basis




to cover an existing worker during a period of leave (an additional 45 hours per f/n).
Key responsibilities
Prepare and cook a variety of meals according to approved menus, ensuring meals are nutritious, appetising and tailored to individual dietary requirements and preferences
Manage specialised diets including soft, pureed, diabetic, low-sodium and allergen-free meals to support residents' health needs
Maintain rigorous kitchen hygiene and food safety standards in accordance with health regulations and Assisi Aged Care policies
Ensure all food storage, preparation and cooking practices comply with food safety regulations
Liaise with nursing and care staff to understand and accommodate residents' individual dietary needs and any changes to their requirements
Manage kitchen stock levels, monitor inventory and assist with food ordering as required
Contribute to meal planning discussions to ensure variety, nutritional balance and resident satisfaction
Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment throughout the kitchen
Support the wider aged care team by communicating effectively about meal service times and special dietary considerations
What we're looking for
Recognised RTO or trade qualification in commercial cookery or hospitality (or equivalent)




Proven experience as a cook in a healthcare, aged care, hospitality or institutional food service setting
Comprehensive knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards, including current food handling certification to supervisor level
Understanding of dietary requirements for older adults and experience in adapting meals for specialised diets
Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team including nurses, carers and activities staff
Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality in food preparation
A genuine compassion for aged care residents and commitment to enhancing their dining experience
A satisfactory police check is a regulatory requirement.
First Aid certification or willingness to obtain is advantageous
Ability to speak Italian (highly regarded)
