CPB Contractors is Australia's leading contractor and the largest infrastructure construction company in our region. Part of the CIMIC Group, we are proud to be constructing Australia's future and do so collaboratively with our partners and clients. We hire for careers, not project life. CPB Contractors has more than 50 major infrastructure projects in delivery, across all key sectors of the construction industry, including roads and bridges, rail, tunnelling, defence, airports, buildings, and resources, providing you with career opportunities for years to come.
The Project
The CPB Contractors and Seymour Whyte Constructions Joint Venture (CPBSWC JV) is currently working with the Victorian Infrastructure Delivery Authority (VIDA) towards the delivery of the Western Highway Duplication Section 2B, located between Pope Road, Buangor and Warrayatkin Road, Ararat.
The Western Highway (A8) in Victoria is the key road transport corridor between Melbourne and Adelaide, currently a two-lane, single carriageway highway in some sections. The road provides a critical connection for interstate road freight between Victoria and South Australia, the agricultural industry and regional tourism, and the section between Ballarat and Stawell is one of the busiest rural highways in the country.
The upgrade of the Western Highway between Buangor and Ararat (Section 2B) will include the construction of nearly 12km of four-lane divided highway (two lanes in each direction), separated by a central median.
The major elements would include:
6.5km of new dual carriageway highway between Pope Road, Buangor and Picnic Ground Road, Warrak
Upgrade and duplication of the existing Western Highway between Picnic Ground Road, Warrak and Warrayatkin Road, Ararat
Bulk earthworks
Bridge structures over the Hopkins River and the Melbourne–Ararat V/Line railway line
Removal of the existing bridge structure over the Hopkins River
