About the Position
Reporting to the Group CFO, the Finance & Compliance Manager is a newly created position responsible for strengthening financial governance, technical capability and compliance across the portfolio.
Initially focused on financial accounting, statutory reporting and compliance, the role will take ownership of month-end review, financial statement preparation, technical accounting, Australian tax obligations, FBT, R&D; Tax Incentive activities and corporate compliance. You will work closely with internal finance personnel and external advisers while progressively bringing selected activities in-house.
The position will also contribute to improving reporting, controls, systems and finance processes. Over time, the role will broaden into budgeting, forecasting, management reporting and commercial support, making this an ideal opportunity for a technically strong professional seeking genuine influence within a growing private group.
The role is offered on a permanent part-time basis, averaging three days per week,
although this may fluctuate depending on month-end, quarter-end, year-end and compliance cycles. Working arrangements are highly flexible, with regular connection to stakeholders in Ballarat and Geelong.
Duties
Prepare and review financial statements and statutory reporting across multiple entities
Research and apply Australian accounting standards to complex and non-routine transactions
Prepare, document and communicate technical accounting assessments
Manage income tax, BAS, FBT and other Australian compliance obligations
Complete payroll tax, workers compensation, STP reconciliation and related requirements
Manage R&D; Tax Incentive claims, including eligible activities, expenditure and supporting documentation
Liaise with external accountants, tax advisers, auditors and other professional advisers
Complete ASIC, company secretarial and broader regulatory compliance requirements
Maintain accurate corporate registers, records and audit trails
Provide technical guidance and practical support to other finance team members
Identify accounting, tax and regulatory risks and develop pragmatic solutions
Review existing processes and implement improvements to controls, efficiency and consistency
Support finance system, reporting and automation initiatives across the group
Provide financial analysis and practical advice to senior stakeholders
Assist with the transition of appropriate activities from external advisers to the internal finance function
About You
You will be an autonomous and commercially minded accounting professional who combines strong technical expertise with the ability to build trusted relationships. You will enjoy working across multiple entities and industries and be comfortable operating in a close-knit, privately owned business setting.
You will likely bring experience from a Big Four or mid-tier accounting firm, particularly across business advisory, financial reporting or a similar practice setting. Candidates from technically focused commercial roles will also be considered.
You will have:
CA or CPA qualification
Approximately five or more years' experience in accounting, audit, financial reporting or business advisory
Strong knowledge of Australian accounting standards and financial reporting requirements
Experience preparing financial statements and technical accounting documentation
Strong understanding of Australian taxation and tax compliance requirements
Experience managing accounting and compliance requirements across multiple entities or businesses
Exposure to R&D; Tax Incentive claims and supporting documentation
Experience working with privately owned businesses or active owners preferred
Excellent analytical, technical accounting and problem-solving skills
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
Ability to manage competing deadlines autonomously
Clear and confident written and verbal communication skills
High levels of integrity, discretion and accountability
Curiosity, initiative and a continuous-improvement mindset
Experience with finance systems, reporting tools or process automation advantageous
