Job details About the client Our client is a Queensland Government department responsible for managing the states natural resources, supporting the mining and manufacturing sectors, and driving regional and rural development outcomes.
Working closely with industry, landholders and communities, they deliver policies, programs and regulatory oversight that ensure resources are used responsibly while supporting economic growth and job creation across the state.
What you will be doing This position plays a key role in supporting the statewide approach to managing risks across Queenslands Abandoned Mine Portfolio.
Working fulltime hours in a dynamic and collaborative environment, you will contribute to the identification, assessment and prioritisation of legacy mine risks, while also helping to unlock opportunities for remediation, repurposing and re-commercialisation.
In this role, you will undertake a combination of desktop and field-based activities, supporting the implementation of Queenslands abandoned mines policy and delivery agenda.
A central focus of the position is applying the Risk and Prioritisation Framework for Abandoned Mine Management and Remediation, ensuring sites are assessed consistently and translated into clear, actionable priorities.
Your role will include: Coordinating and undertaking desktop and field assessments, including risk assessments, spatial analysis and data management Identifying and evaluating site risks to inform remediation, repurposing and re-commercialisation opportunities Supporting the statewide implementation of the Risk and Prioritisation Framework to assess, rank and prioritise abandoned mine sites Facilitating workshops to identify risks,
opportunities and controls, and maintaining the AMLP risk register Planning, commissioning and monitoring technical investigations, studies and field activities Interpreting findings and translating outcomes into proposed project scopes for management consideration Developing technical specifications for engaging consultants and contractors in line with procurement processes Undertaking procurement planning and execution within approved budgets Preparing briefs, reports, submissions and recommendations, including responses to departmental and Ministerial requests Communicating effectively with internal and external stakeholders to support successful project outcomes Assisting in the governance of the interagency Mines at Risk Forum Supporting the broader Planning and Assessment Team as required What you will need To be successful in this role, you will bring a strong technical background along with the ability to manage competing priorities in a complex and evolving environment.
Tertiary qualification in geology, science, engineering or a related technical discipline (highly regarded) Experience within the mining industry (highly regarded) Demonstrated experience in risk assessment and risk management frameworks Solid analytical skills with experience in data interpretation,
spatial analysis and reporting Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines Strong written and verbal communication skills Experience engaging with a range of stakeholders across technical and non-technical environments Understanding of procurement processes and contractor engagement is desirable Current C Class Drivers Licence (mandatory) Ability and willingness to undertake field work in remote locations and varying terrain Whats in it for you?
