The Laboratory Technician assists the chemists in the laboratory by conducting both quantitative and qualitative analyses, performing laboratory tests and measurements, and preparing detailed reports documenting the procedures and results.

We are rapidly progressing the Mardie Salt Operation and Potash Project (Mardie Operation), a tier 1 solar evaporation project that will supply high-purity industrial salt and sulphate of potash (SOP) for more than 60 years.

The Role
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to join Mardie Salt Operation. Reporting to the Process Engineer, you will be responsible for collecting representative samples from process streams, evaporation ponds, brine circuits, raw materials, and final products in accordance with established sampling plans and schedules. You will perform routine elemental and chemical analyses in our onsite laboratory, including pH measurements, titrations,
ICP-OES, AAS and Density, providing accurate results to support production, process control, and operational decision-making.
The successful candidate will assist with field sampling activities, ensuring proper techniques and sample integrity, while adhering to protected laboratory practices and all site HSE protocols. You will follow QA/QC procedures to ensure test accuracy, participate in audits and investigations as required, and calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment to meet compliance standards.
Additionally, you will maintain a clean, organised, and safe laboratory environment, communicate results effectively to the Production team, contribute to the new laboratory development and procedures, process troubleshooting and optimisation, and ensure meticulous documentation and data integrity.
About You:
The successful candidate will have:
Certificate IV or Diploma in Laboratory Techniques, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
Minimum of 1 year of experience in a laboratory environment, preferably in an analytical or process-focused lab.
Previous experience in a mineral processing, chemical, or industrial laboratory (ideally within the mining or salt/potash industry).
Experience with wet chemistry techniques and analytical instruments such as ICP-OES, AAS, titration and pH meters, IC, Auto titrators, Density meters.
Sound understanding of laboratory safety, quality control, and sample handling procedures.
Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook & SharePoint), LIMS.
Knowledge of salt production processes (desirable)
Experience in a commissioning or start-up environment (desirable).
Operate and maintain 4WD vehicles (desirable)
Current First Aid certificate (desirable)
The successful candidate will be required to provide a national police clearance that is not older than 6 months and must hold a WA White Card.
You must have current unrestricted working rights for Australia to be eligible for consideration.
