Talent World is seeking an experienced and skilled Chef on behalf of our client, an established bakery and cafe business located in Fyshwick, ACT.
Position Details Job Title: Chef Location: Fyshwick, ACT **** Employment Type: Full time permanent Salary: AUD 80,000 plus Superannuation Working Hours: 38 hours per week About the Role This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced and passionate Chef to join a growing bakery and cafe business in Fyshwick.
Our client operates a busy kitchen producing a wide range of baked goods, cafe style meals and food service items for its customers.
As the business continues to grow, it requires an experienced Chef to plan, organise and oversee the preparation and cooking of food, ensuring consistent quality, efficient kitchen operations and compliance with food safety standards across the business.
Key Responsibilities Plan and organise the preparation and cooking of food across the kitchen, including menu planning, recipe development and daily production schedules.
Estimate food and labour costs and order food supplies and ingredients, ensuring stock levels, quality and cost control are properly managed.
Monitor the quality of dishes and baked goods at all stages of preparation, cooking and presentation, ensuring consistency and high standards are maintained.
Discuss food preparation issues and operational matters with management, kitchen staff and front of house staff to ensure smooth day to day running of the kitchen.
Demonstrate techniques and advise kitchen staff on cooking, baking and food preparation procedures, ensuring correct methods and standards are followed.
Prepare and cook food items, including baked goods, pastries and cafe menu items,
to a consistently high standard.
Explain and enforce food safety and hygiene regulations across the kitchen, ensuring compliance with relevant health and safety requirements at all times.
Select, train and supervise kitchen staff, providing guidance and support to ensure a well functioning and productive kitchen team.
Freeze and preserve food items where required, ensuring correct storage methods are used to maintain food quality and safety.
Liaise with suppliers to source quality ingredients and negotiate favourable terms, supporting cost efficient kitchen operations.
Maintain a clean, organised and safe kitchen environment in line with workplace health and safety requirements.
Skills and Qualifications Required Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience as a Chef or in a related occupation, or a relevant trade qualification such as an Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma in Commercial Cookery or a related field.
Demonstrated experience planning menus, managing food costs and ordering supplies in a commercial kitchen workplace.
Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques and food safety and hygiene standards.
Demonstrated ability to monitor and maintain consistent quality across food preparation and presentation.
Experience training, supervising or mentoring junior kitchen staff.
Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet production deadlines in a busy kitchen environment.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with management, kitchen staff and front of house staff.
Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends and public holidays as required by the business.
