An excellent opportunity is available for a current Advanced Trainee in General Medicine seeking a 12-month accredited Core Training appointment for ****.
Based at a major regional teaching hospital in Victoria, this position offers broad General Medicine experience, daily consultant supervision, specialist outpatient exposure and a comprehensive education programme. The role is designed to support the development of confident, well-rounded General Physicians and provides an excellent environment for progression through Advanced Training.
The Position The successful Advanced Trainee will work with one of three inpatient General Medicine teams:
Gastroenterology
Neurology/Renal Medicine
Endocrinology
Each team includes Interns, Hospital Medical Officers and a Basic Physician Trainee, with close supervision and support from consultant physicians.
The Advanced Trainee will manage a broad range of acute and chronic medical conditions and gain experience in both inpatient and outpatient medicine.
There are also opportunities to manage complex and undifferentiated acute medical presentations within the Acute Medical Unit (AMU).
Some weekend duties are required, including consultant-supervised ward rounds, with rostering undertaken in accordance with the applicable Enterprise Bargaining Agreement.
Clinical Training
Daily consultant-led ward rounds are a central component of the position. As clinical experience and competence develop, the Advanced Trainee may have opportunities to lead ward rounds under consultant supervision.
The position provides valuable exposure to:
Acute and complex General Medicine
Gastroenterology
Neurology
Renal Medicine
Endocrinology
Perioperative Medicine
Acute Medical Unit presentations
Outpatient specialist medicine
Advanced Trainees will also attend outpatient clinics selected, where possible, to complement their individual training requirements and career objectives. These may include Gastroenterology, Neurology and Perioperative Medicine clinics.
Accredited Advanced Training Applications are invited from new Advanced Trainees in General Medicine seeking a 12-month Core Training appointment in ****.
This is an accredited Advanced Training position offering structured clinical experience and supervision within a supportive physician training environment.




It represents an excellent opportunity for doctors progressing through physician training who wish to combine high-quality accredited training with the breadth of clinical experience available within a major regional referral hospital.
Education and FRACP Training Support
The hospital has a strong teaching and learning culture, with access to both internal and external educational programmes.
The successful trainee will have access to:
Internal physician education programmes
External education through the Austin/Northern teaching network
Victorian IMG (VIMG) educational sessions
Grand Rounds
Journal Club
Basic Physician Trainee teaching
Consultant-led clinical education
Active participation in departmental teaching is expected.
The Advanced Trainee will also be encouraged to support FRACP examination candidates and assist the Directors of Physician Education with examination preparation and coordination.
These responsibilities provide useful opportunities to develop teaching, leadership and medical education skills alongside clinical training.
Research and Quality Improvement
Professional and academic development are actively supported.
The successful applicant will be encouraged to undertake a quality improvement or research project during the appointment, with opportunities to work alongside experienced consultant physicians.
This combination of clinical training, education, research and leadership experience provides a strong foundation for a future career as a General Physician.
Candidate Requirements
This vacancy is specifically open to new Advanced Trainees in General Medicine seeking accredited Core Training for ****.
Applicants should have:
MBBS, MBChB or equivalent recognised medical degree
Appropriate medical registration with AHPRA, or eligibility to obtain registration before commencement
Completion of the training requirements necessary to commence Advanced Training in General Medicine
Appropriate postgraduate physician training experience
A demonstrated commitment to a career in General Medicine
Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills
Effective communication and multidisciplinary teamwork skills
Commitment to teaching,



continuing professional development and evidence-based medicine
Ability to participate in the required after-hours and weekend roster
The successful candidate will also be required to provide evidence of the required immunisation record, including **** influenza vaccination, as part of the onboarding process.

The Clinical Operations Division encompasses medical, surgical, critical care, cancer, women's and children's and mental health services. Specialties include General Medicine, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Renal Medicine, Endocrinology, Cardiology, Oncology, Emergency Medicine and Critical Care.
