Position Summary
MADF seeks a WCCN Architect to support climate-resilient agriculture, water conservation, and community education across Pierce County. These roles will lead the design and installation of drip irrigation and rainwater harvesting systems, support youth curriculum, and deliver hands-on training for BIPOC farmers and at-risk youth. Architects will be promoting climate justice, food sovereignty, and long-term community resilience.
Key Responsibilities
Climate-Resilient Infrastructure (40%)
Design, install, maintain drip irrigation and rainwater harvesting systems
Document implementation steps and support development of replicable toolkits
Education & Community Workshops (30%)
Deliver hands-on workshops for BIPOC farmers and youth on sustainable water management, climate-resilient farming, and drought mitigation
Support curriculum design for the Rising Roots youth program
Create accessible training materials and demonstrations
Program Evaluation & Best Practices (15%)
Track system performance and water-use reduction
Conduct feedback sessions with farmers/youth
Develop "how-to" guides, success stories, and best-practice documentation
Community Engagement & Partnership Support (15%)
Participate in community events, farm tours, and outreach




Work collaboratively with partners such as Pierce Conservation District, Tilth Alliance, and WSU Extension
Strengthen peer-to-peer learning among youth and farmers
Professional Development & Benefits

Requirements
Minimum
Commitment to climate justice and environmental equity
Ability to perform hands-on outdoor work
Strong teamwork and communication skills
Interest in agriculture, sustainability, or environmental justice
Preferred
Experience in gardening/farming
Lived or skilled experience within BIPOC or overburdened communitiesExperience working in or with BIPOC-led organizations
Experience teaching or leading youth/volunteers
Familiarity with irrigation or green infrastructure concepts
