Children's Medical Research Institute (CMRI) was Australia's first dedicated paediatric research facility and is now one of the world's most highly regarded independent medical research organisations. Our research focuses on the four key areas impacting children's health: cancer, genomics and genetic diseases, neurobiology, and embryology.
In this role we are seeking a Research Assistant to join the Eye Genetics Research Unit, supporting cutting-edge research into the genetic and molecular causes of eye disease and the development of next-generation therapies. Working both independently and collaboratively, the role contributes to laboratory research activities, data analysis, scientific reporting, and the advancement of sight-saving treatments for inherited retinal conditions.
Work with a team of dedicated professionals
We are looking for a (add role) to join our team to:
Conduct high-quality laboratory research to support projects investigating the causes of inherited eye diseases and the development of novel genetic therapies
Apply advanced scientific techniques such as cell culture, retinal organoid generation, genomic technologies, and other specialised laboratory methods to drive research outcomes
Maintain accurate research records and analyse data, contributing to scientific publications, presentations,



and the translation of discoveries into potential therapies.
Collaborate in a dynamic research environment, sharing knowledge, supporting team activities, and helping maintain a safe, organised, and high-performing laboratory.

What can you bring to this role?
Degree in biomedical science, molecular biology, genetics, cell biology, biotechnology, or a related scientific discipline
Hands-on experience in a research laboratory environment, including tissue culture techniques.
Strong scientific research skills with the ability to generate, analyse and accurately record research data.
Excellent organisational, communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Experience in human stem cell culture, retinal organoids, or advanced microscopy techniques will be highly regarded.
