Under direction of the Office of the Sheriff, the Detention Facility Assistant Correctional Administrator oversees the day-to-day operations of the facility and is the highest-ranking officer supervising inmates. Supervises, coordinates and directs the administrative and operational services essential to support the primary functions and philosophical objectives of a direct supervision correctional facility.Responsible for overall safety, security and sanitary conditions of the facility.
QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's degree (preferably in Criminal Justice/Corrections) required.Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline preferred.Experience in the concept of direct supervision required.Experience as a correctional supervisor required.Minimum of ten (10) years in the Corrections career field.
(A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of security procedures and technology in a direct supervision model. Knowledge of the unit management concept and how to deliver service to the units. Knowledge of general security operations within a direct supervision environment. Familiar with the philosophy of keeping inmates active and occupied in positive programs. Ability to supervise employees through an established rapport. Ability to plan, direct, supervise, train and evaluate the work of subordinates. Ability to deal with persons of asocial or anti-social behavior, while preserving their rights. Knowledge of the inmate classification process.
Ability to execute a proactive inmate management philosophy. Ability to implement a mission philosophy to inmates and staff. Knowledge of trends and current developments in the direct supervision correctional model. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to prepare clear, accurate, and informative reports and to make suitable recommendations. Ability to apply direct supervision theories to problems encountered. Ability to present orally and discuss complex facility matters in a clear manner. Ability to provide sound advice, assistance, and instruction. Ability to understand the role and responsibilities of various personnel. Ability to gather, assemble, correlate, and analyze facts and draw conclusions from them. Ability to comprehend, evaluate, and analyze personnel and inmate problems, and develop solutions to problems expediently and systematically. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid driver's license and eligibility for the County's motor vehicle insurance coverage.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
This position is classified at Grade 111, with a salary range of $69,606 - $132,251 and a complete County benefits package including health and life insurance, paid leave, and pension.
