Job Description
This role involves providing consistent, therapeutic 2:1 support to a young person with complex support needs.
This role involves providing consistent, therapeutic 2:1 support to a young person with complex support needs. The young person benefits from calm, predictable and relationship-based support from workers who can build trust, maintain clear boundaries and remain regulated during periods of heightened emotion or distress.
The Role Includes Supporting With
Daily routines and independence skills
Community access and meaningful activities
School attendance and engagement where required
Emotional regulation and behaviour support strategies
Social skills, communication and positive relationships
Engagement in interests such as cooking, gaming, technology, board games and creative activities
Maintaining a protected, structured and low-arousal environment
Following Behaviour Support Plans, risk assessments and approved restrictive practice requirements where applicable
Accurate documentation and communication with the broader support team
You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, alongside family, behaviour support, psychology, psychiatry and other relevant stakeholders.
We are looking for workers who are calm, confident, emotionally regulated and genuinely interested in building a long-term therapeutic relationship with the young person. Consistency is particularly important, so applicants must be able to commit to regular set shifts.
This is not simply a community access role. It requires workers who understand that behaviour is communication and who can provide safe, respectful and person-centred support during both everyday routines and more challenging moments.
Roster
Monday to Friday, with shifts scheduled between 6:00am and 6:00pm.
Applicants must have availability within these hours and be able to commit to regular, consistent shifts.
Requirements
We are seeking support workers who are calm, consistent, emotionally regulated and confident working within a therapeutic support environment.
Successful Applicants Will Ideally Have
Experience supporting young people with complex behaviours and psychosocial needs
Experience working with Autism, ADHD, PDA profiles, anxiety, OCD traits and emotional dysregulation
A strong understanding of trauma-informed, person-centred and positive behaviour support approaches
Confidence responding to behaviours of concern, including periods of escalation, self-harm risk or aggression
Ability to follow Behaviour Support Plans, risk assessments and restrictive practice protocols
Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with family, clinicians and the broader multidisciplinary team
Ability to maintain professional boundaries while developing genuine, trusting relationships
Reliability and capacity to commit to regular, set shifts
Accurate case noting, incident reporting and handover skills
A patient, non-judgemental and low-arousal approach
Certifications
Applicants Must Hold, Or Be Willing To Obtain
NDIS Worker Screening Clearance
Working with Children Check / Blue Card
Current First Aid and CPR
Current Australian Driver Licence
Reliable, comprehensively insured vehicle
Relevant NDIS Worker Orientation and mandatory training
Appropriate qualifications and/or demonstrated experience in disability, youth, mental health, community services or a related field
Previous experience in complex youth support, therapeutic residential care, child protection, youth justice, mental health or behaviour support would be highly regarded.
