This is an opportunity to take ownership of the finance function within a growing $60 million annual revenue construction business.Construction projects include residential, townhouse developments, multi-storey residential, hotels, offices and warehouses.The position requires the technical and operational capability of a Financial Controller, together with the ability to look ahead.
You will develop reliable forecasts, provide practical commercial insights and contribute financial input to the company's broader business strategy.Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will remain hands-on across reporting, cash flow, compliance, payroll and project accounting while becoming a trusted adviser on financial performance, risk and future growth.The Company:This established construction business turns over approximately $60 million annually and is continuing to grow.Based on Brisbane's southside, the company has developed a strong pipeline of work and is investing in its people, systems and operational capability to support further growth.The culture is practical and fast-moving.
Senior leaders remain close to the operation, decisions can be made quickly and the successful Finance Manager will have direct access to the Managing Director.This is a full-time, office-based position.The Opportunity:Reporting to the Managing Director, you will manage the day-to-day financial operations of the business while ensuring accurate reporting, solid cash flow control and compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.You will supervise an Accounts Officer and work closely with senior leadership and operational teams across the business.The role combines hands-on financial control with forward-looking commercial support.

reporting and internal controlsBroad visibility across projects and business operationsJoin a growing construction business with approximately $60 million turnoverLead and develop an Accounts OfficerWork in a business where your recommendations can lead to actionKey responsibilities:Strategic Financial LeadershipProvide financial analysis and insights to support strategic decision-makingCollaborate with senior leadership to set financial objectives and monitor progressPrepare financial reports and presentations for executive stakeholders and Board reportingDevelop forward-looking forecasts and provide practical financial input into broader business strategyHelp management understand the financial implications of growth, operational and investment decisionsFinancial OperationsPerform and manage the end-to-end month-end close, including journals, accruals, reconciliations and reportingPrepare and maintain accurate financial records, ensuring integrity across all finance systemsActively manage accounts receivable, accounts payable and invoice approvalsBudgeting, Forecasting and ReportingPrepare annual budgets and rolling forecasts in collaboration with leadershipProduce monthly management reports, variance analysis and practical financial insights for the Managing DirectorSupport Board reporting with clear, accurate and timely financial informationMaintain forward forecasts that provide management with visibility over expected financial performance, cash requirements and emerging risksCash Flow, Payroll and Cost ManagementMonitor daily cash flow and prepare short and medium-term cash flow forecastsManage payroll processing, compliance and reconciliation with financial systemsProvide payroll relief when requiredTrack job costs, work in progress and project margins, identifying variances and risks earlyReview supplier costs, invoices and payment runs to ensure accuracy and cost controlCompliance, Controls and AuditPrepare and lodge BAS, GST, payroll tax and other statutory returnsEnsure compliance with AASB/IFRS, taxation and financial regulationsMaintain strong internal controls and audit-ready documentationCoordinate internal and external audits and address findings as requiredSystems and Process OwnershipOwn and maintain financial systems, including ERP, payroll and inventory integrationsEnsure data accuracy, system controls and continuous improvement of finance processesSupport system enhancements to improve efficiency and reporting capabilityIdentify opportunities to improve financial workflows, controls and reportingPeople and Process ImprovementProvide hands-on supervision and support to the Accounts OfficerShare knowledge, review work for accuracy and support capability development within the finance functionEnsure finance processes are documented,
controlled and monitoredContribute to broader business improvements and strategic financial initiativesMaintain effective relationships with internal teams, accountants, auditors, suppliers and relevant government departmentsRequirements:Senior experience as a Finance Manager, Financial Controller or similarly accountable finance professionalExperience managing a finance function with end-to-end responsibilityStrong hands-on capability across month-end, reconciliations and financial reportingDemonstrated experience in budgeting, rolling forecasts and financial analysisExperience preparing monthly management and Board reportingStrong cash flow forecasting and working-capital management capabilityExperience tracking job costs, WIP and project marginsHands-on experience with payroll, BAS and compliance reportingWorking knowledge of AASB/IFRS requirementsExperience implementing or improving internal controls and financial systemsAbility to identify financial risks and recommend practical responsesConfidence providing financial insights to a Managing Director and senior leadership teamAbility to coach and support finance staffStrong relationship-building, planning and organisational skillsHigh attention to detail and accuracyIntermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skillsProficiency with financial software, ERP platforms and modelling toolsAbility to work independently while contributing to the broader teamCurrent Australian driver licenceFull Australian working rightsA degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field will be highly regarded.
CA or CPA qualification is desirable.Experience within construction, manufacturing or another project-based environment would be advantageous.
