Staff AccountantLocation: Spire AcademyReports To: ControllerJob Type: Full-timePosition OverviewSpire Academy is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Sr.
Staff Accountant to support the Controller in financial reporting, accounting operations, cash management, and payroll processing.
This role is responsible for overseeing general accounting functions, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and managing cashflow for multiple locations.
The ideal candidate will have strong analytical and organizational skills and accounting experience, and also a demonstrated ability to identify and implement process improvements.
This position requires a high level of accuracy, sound judgment, confidentiality, and the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Reporting & AccountingAssist in preparing financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.Oversee month-end and year-end close processes.Review and reconcile general ledger accounts.Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies.Assist with internal and external audits, preparing necessary documentation.Cash ManagementOversee cash functions, including cash positioning, cash reporting and forecasting and wire payments.Maintain short- and long-term cash projections.Partner with Accounts Payable to monitor and manage weekly cash requirements and expenditures.Review payroll for accuracy and ensure timely funding and processing.Budgeting & Financial AnalysisAssist in the preparation of annual operating budgets and financial forecasts.Perform budget-to-actual variance analysis and provide meaningful financial insights to management.Support direct billing reconciliations between locations and investigate and resolve discrepancies.Provide financial analysis and reporting to support informed business decisions.Process Improvement & Systems ManagementIdentify and implement improvements in accounting and payroll processes.Assist in the implementation and optimization of accounting and payroll systems.Ensure accurate data entry and reporting within financial systems.Team Leadership & SupportSupport and mentor junior accounting staff.Act as a backup for the Controller in their absence.Required QualificationsAssociate Degree in Accounting required; Bachelor's degree required.5+ years of accounting experience, including payroll management.Strong knowledge of GAAP, payroll laws, and financial reporting.Proficiency in accounting and payroll software (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks, ADP, SAP, Sage).
