This role is essential to our mission of providing inclusive, culturally appropriate support to members of our Khmer-speaking community who live with disabilities.
As a Disability Support Worker, you will provide direct personal care, assistance with daily living activities, and meaningful support to help clients achieve their goals and maintain their independence.
Your fluency in Khmer will be a valuable asset in breaking down communication barriers and ensuring that clients receive culturally sensitive care that honours their background and preferences.
This position offers flexibility for individuals seeking casual work whilst making a genuine difference in the lives of vulnerable community members.Key responsibilitiesProvide direct personal care and assistance with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, and toiletingOffer mobility support and assist clients with safe movement, transfers, and positioningSupport clients with meal preparation, feeding,



and nutritional needsCommunicate with clients in Khmer to ensure explicit understanding of care instructions and to build trust and rapportAccompany clients to medical appointments, community outings, and social activitiesMaintain accurate records and documentation of support provided and client wellbeing observationsReport any concerns or changes in client health and wellbeing to the care coordinator or supervisorRespect client privacy, dignity, and independence whilst providing appropriate levels of supportAdhere to all safety protocols, including infection control, manual handling, and emergency proceduresCollaborate effectively with other team members and maintain professional boundariesWhat we're looking forFluency in Khmer language – ability to communicate effectively in both Khmer and English to support clients from Khmer-speaking backgroundsExperience in disability support, aged care, or health and social care services (desirable)First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain one (Training to be provided)Working with Children Check (WWC) or willingness to obtain clearance if required by VictoriaCurrent National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Worker Orientation Module (WOM) completion or willingness to completeStrong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build rapport with clients from diverse backgroundsEmpathy, patience, and genuine passion for supporting people with disabilitiesPhysical ability to provide personal care and assistance, including safe manual handlingReliability and commitment to arriving on time for scheduled shiftsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamA non-judgemental approach and respect for client autonomy and cultural values
