APS 6 Data Specialist
Contract: ASAP start until 30 June **** | Potential 3-month extension
Location: Canberra-based (Hybrid)
Eligibility: Australian Citizenship required | Baseline security clearance required
A Federal Government program is seeking APS 6 Data Specialists to support the uplift of data capability across a large, complex delivery program.
This is a hands‐on, delivery-focused role, ideal for candidates who enjoy working with unstructured data and transforming it into reliable, decision‐ready insights.
You will work closely with a senior data lead and program stakeholders to improve data structures, reporting, and analytics that support program management and oversight.
Key Responsibilities
Review, consolidate, and manage data from multiple sources
Clean, standardise, and validate complex datasets to improve accuracy and consistency
Support the development of logical data frameworks and models




Build and maintain dashboards and reports using Power BI
Improve the automation, consistency, and repeatability of reporting processes
Prepare data outputs for senior stakeholders, program managers, and external reporting
Document data definitions, assumptions, and reporting logic to support governance, audit, and business continuity
Skills & Experience
Strong experience in data analysis and reporting within complex program environments
Advanced Excel skills and hands‐on experience with Power BI
Proven ability to work with fragmented and high-volume datasets
Experience supporting program management or delivery-focused teams
Background in large‐scale government programs highly regarded
Solid stakeholder engagement, communication, and documentation skills
