The role of the Associate is to manage chambers and to supervise the Deputy Associate.Important FunctionsThe person appointed to this position is expected to carry out his or her duties so as to:Satisfy all relevant statutory obligationsSatisfy the Australian Public Service Values and Code of ConductContribute to and support achievement of the Court's Strategic and Business PlansOperate within the Court's policies and procedural guidelines, andSupport and contribute to the Court's Service CharterKey Responsibilities and DutiesDay-to-day running of chambers including responding to enquiries.Assist in the conduct of Court proceedings, ensuring the orderly conduct of matters and general Courtroom management.Supervise the work of the deputy associate.Assist the Judge to manage the docket by preparing and managing matters waiting for hearing.Providing a high level of administrative support to the judicial officer to ensure the prompt distribution of orders and judgments.Entering data accurately into the Court's case management and other information systems to reflect the workload of the judicial officer.Maintain court related relationships with various external stakeholders.Arrangements for circuit and relief sittings.Contribute to organisational forums working for better working practices.Other duties as required.Qualifications and experienceExperience working in a legal environment is desirable, but not essential.Selection CriteriaStrong communication (oral and written) and liaison skills and the ability to communicate with people of all levels.Organisational and follow-through skills, including attention to detail, time-management skills, the ability to manage priorities and adapt to changing situations.A high standard of ethical behaviour.Tolerance, diligence and the ability to work as a member of a small team.Demonstrated high-level keyboard skills and ability to use relevant software applications including Microsoft Office applications and the Internet.EligibilityEmployment with the Court is subject to the conditions prescribed in the Public Service Act ****, and the following:Australian citizenship – the successful applicant must hold Australian citizenship.Security and character clearance – the successful applicant must satisfy a Police Records Check and may also be required to complete security clearances during the course of their employment.Successful applicants engaged into the APS will be subject to a probation period.Interested candidates who have received a redundancy benefit from an APS agency are welcome to apply but note that they cannot be engaged until their redundancy benefit period has expiredArtificial Intelligence (AI) in recruitmentCandidates may use AI tools to assist with their participation in this recruitment process unless otherwise advised.
