Build something real.
Not everyone wants to spend their working day behind a desk.
Some people prefer practical work, a clear job to complete and the satisfaction of seeing what the team has produced at the end of the day.
Thompson Longhorn is seeking a reliable
General Labourer
to join our manufacturing workshop at Goomburra, near Warwick.
This is an opportunity for someone who wants to work with their hands, learn practical manufacturing skills and become a trusted member of a production team.
You may already have experience in manufacturing, agriculture, construction, warehousing, fabrication, mechanical work or another hands-on environment.
You may also be looking for an opportunity to enter the manufacturing industry and prove what you can do.
We are not looking for a perfect resume.
We are looking for someone who will turn up, work safely, learn, contribute and take pride in doing the job properly.
About Thompson Longhorn
Established in ****, Thompson Longhorn is an Australian-owned and operated manufacturer of livestock handling equipment.
From our Goomburra design and manufacturing facility, we produce Australian-made equipment intended to improve workplace safety, animal welfare, labour efficiency and livestock processing performance.
Our workshop combines practical manufacturing experience with developing production systems, technology and automation.
This role gives you the opportunity to be part of that development.
The opportunity
The work is varied, but the standard is consistent:
work safely, follow instructions, look after the equipment and complete each task properly.
Working under the direction of the Workshop Supervisor, you will assist with:
general workshop labouring and production support;
preparing and cleaning components before painting;
packing and strapping finished products and components;
moving and organising materials within the workshop;
maintaining clean, orderly and safe work areas;
reading basic drawings, job tickets and work instructions;
safely using hand tools, power tools and workshop equipment;

accurately clocking onto and off production jobs;
assisting with project work and other reasonable workshop tasks; and
identifying hazards, problems and opportunities to improve how work is completed.
The role requires someone who is comfortable performing a broad range of duties and supporting different areas of the workshop as production requirements change.
Practical work supported by technology
Modern manufacturing depends on accurate information as well as good practical work.
You will use our production systems to clock onto jobs, follow work instructions and help maintain accurate job information.
You do not need advanced computer skills.
However, you must be willing to:
use tablets, computers and digital production systems;
learn the correct process rather than developing workarounds;
enter information accurately;
ask questions when you are unsure; and
adapt as our workshop systems and technology continue to develop.
We are looking for someone who is prepared to learn both the physical and digital sides of the job.
Who we are looking for
Skills can be developed.
Reliability, effort and respect for the team must come with you.
You will be well suited to the role if you:
are dependable, punctual and ready to work;
take pride in completing practical work properly;
are willing to learn and accept constructive feedback;
can follow instructions while also using common sense;
work safely and do not take unnecessary shortcuts;
are flexible and prepared to assist across different workshop activities;
can work effectively as part of a team;
are comfortable using basic digital systems;
can safely perform the inherent physical requirements of the role,

including manual handling and working on your feet;
have a basic understanding of drawings or are willing to learn;
hold a current driver's licence; and
hold a forklift licence or are prepared to obtain one.
Previous experience in manufacturing, workshop labouring, agriculture, construction, warehousing, assembly, painting preparation or material handling will be helpful, but it is not essential.
A trade qualification is
not
required.
What success looks like
Success in this role is straightforward.
You arrive ready to work.
You follow safe systems.
You record your time accurately.
You look after tools and materials.
You ask when something is unclear.
You speak up when you identify a problem.
You help the team complete the work to the required standard.
As your knowledge and capability grow, so can the range of work you are trusted to perform.
What we offer
A permanent, full-time position in an established Australian manufacturing business.
Varied practical work rather than being limited to one repetitive task.
Role-specific instruction and training in our products, processes and systems.
Exposure to manufacturing, production technology and automation.
The opportunity to develop broader workshop and manufacturing skills.
A workplace where reliability, effort and improvement are recognised.
An hourly rate reflecting the successful applicant's relevant skills and experience.
Applicable superannuation, overtime, penalty rates and other employment entitlements.
How to apply
Submit your resume through SEEK and briefly answer the following:
What hands-on, workshop, farm, construction or production work have you previously completed?
What licences, tickets or practical skills do you currently hold?
Why do you believe you would be a reliable member of our workshop team?
A lengthy or highly polished cover letter is not required.
We are interested in your attitude, your work ethic and what you are prepared to learn.
Come ready to work.
Leave each day knowing you helped build something real.
