Finance Analyst - Group FP&A;
Sydney CBD | $147,000 + 16.5% Super | 9-Day Fortnight
About the business
This is an exciting opportunity to join a large, Australian operating within the infrastructure sector organisation that is entering an important period of growth and transformation.
The organisation has a significant long-term growth agenda, with substantial investment and expansion planned over the coming years. As the business continues to evolve, so too is its Group FP&A; function, with a clear focus on improving the quality of reporting, strengthening processes and controls, and providing greater insight to senior leadership.
This is a business where you will have genuine visibility and the opportunity to make an impact. The environment is evolving, so this will suit someone who enjoys working through ambiguity, improving processes and helping build something rather than simply inheriting a perfectly established finance function.
About the role
Reporting to the FP&A; Manager within a dedicated team of 6, you will join a high-performing and collaborative Group FP&A; team responsible for delivering accurate, insightful and timely financial information across the organisation.
This is a broad Finance Analyst position combining financial reporting, forecasting, analysis, modelling and process improvement.
You will play an important role in producing Group-level reporting and will work closely with Finance Business Partners and teams across Finance to understand the story behind the numbers, challenge assumptions and improve the way information is produced and presented.
The role will suit someone who enjoys the detail but can also step back and ask “what is this telling us?”.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver accurate and timely monthly financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting and performance analysis.
- Prepare high-quality management and executive commentary, explaining financial results, risks, opportunities and key drivers.
- Analyse revenue, operating expenditure,
capital metrics, intercompany transactions and cost allocations.
- Maintain and enhance financial models, reporting tools and governance processes.
- Partner with Finance Business Partners and other finance teams to understand movements, validate information and provide meaningful insight.
- Identify opportunities to improve reporting processes, automate manual activities and strengthen controls.
- Support the development of enhanced reporting and analytical solutions using finance systems, technology and emerging tools.
- Develop a strong understanding of the organisation's financial drivers, operating model and regulatory environment.
- Take ownership of reporting outputs and continuously look for ways to improve their accuracy, timeliness and usefulness.
About you
We are looking for a strong Financial Analyst who is technically capable, commercially curious and naturally inquisitive.
You don't need to come from infrastructure, utilities or a regulated environment - what matters more is that you have operated in a complex organisation and are comfortable getting into the detail, challenging information and learning a new business quickly.
You will ideally have:
- CA/CPA qualification or equivalent tertiary finance/accounting qualifications.
- Strong experience across financial analysis, management accounting, FP&A; or financial reporting within a large, complex structured organisation.
- Advanced Excel and financial modelling capability.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis.
- A track record of improving processes,
automating reporting or finding more efficient ways of working.
- Strong attention to detail and a healthy level of professional scepticism.
- The confidence to challenge assumptions and ask the right questions.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
- The initiative and curiosity to work things out rather than waiting for detailed instructions.
- The ability to operate effectively in a changing environment where processes are continuing to evolve.
Experience with Oracle EPM, Power BI or similar reporting platforms would be advantageous, but is not essential.
What's in it for you?
- $147,000 + 16.5% Super ($171,255 total package)
- 9-day fortnight, providing genuine flexibility.
- Join a Group FP&A; function with strong visibility across the organisation.
- Opportunity to work closely with senior finance stakeholders and Finance Business Partners.
- A role with genuine scope to improve processes, reporting and systems rather than simply maintaining the status quo.
- Strong long-term career potential within a growing and evolving organisation.
- A collaborative team environment with experienced finance professionals around you.
- The chance to build valuable experience within a complex, highly regulated organisation.
The opportunity
This is a particularly good opportunity for an experienced Financial Analyst who wants to take the next step in their career without necessarily moving into people management.
You will have the support of an experienced FP&A; leadership team, but will also be trusted to take ownership of your work, identify opportunities and make improvements.
If you're someone who enjoys getting into the detail, understanding the story behind the numbers and finding better ways to do things, this could be an excellent next move.
