About the role
This is a hands-on leadership role. You'll be on the floor with your team most days — selling, serving customers, and setting the standard — while also owning the behind-the-scenes work that keeps the store running: rosters, stock replenishment, reporting and team development. A year from now, you'll have built a motivated, well-trained team, a store that's consistently well-stocked and beautifully presented, and a track record of finding and acting on new ways to lift sales and customer experience.
Key responsibilities
- Lead, motivate and manage the store team day-to-day, working alongside them on the floor and setting the standard for customer service and craft knowledge.
- Build and manage staff rosters within budgeted hours, and oversee timesheets and staffing to keep the store running smoothly.
- Manage the store's stock — replenishment, receiving and transfers, stocktakes, and keeping displays full and well-presented.
- Recruit, train and develop team members, and run regular performance reviews and coaching.
- Drive sales performance and customer experience, and take ownership of finding and implementing new ways to improve the store's results.
- Manage store operations including opening/closing, banking and reconciliation, and regular reporting to senior management.
- Contribute to in-store events, promotions and online content that bring our crafting community to life.
- Work collaboratively with our other stores, online team, warehouse, and sales and marketing teams to keep stock, promotions and customer experience joined up across the business.
About you
- Experience as a Store Manager or in a similar retail leadership role,
with a proven track record of motivating and managing a team.
- Experience building rosters and managing staff within budgeted hours.
- Experience managing stock, including replenishment and keeping a store well presented.
- A genuine love of knitting, crochet or craft, and enthusiasm for sharing that with customers and your team.
- A hands-on approach — you're happy working on the floor selling alongside your team, not just managing from the office.
- Self-motivated, with a track record of spotting and acting on ways to improve store performance.
- A genuine team player, able and willing to work closely with other Morris & Sons stores, our online arm, warehouse, and the sales and marketing teams.
- Preferred: Experience in a specialty or craft retail workplace.
- Preferred: An eye for visual merchandising and in-store presentation.
- Preferred: Experience contributing to social media or online content.
