The Tamworth Region is currently experiencing significant economic growth, with more than $550 million in local building approvals recorded in 2025/26 alone. This figure does not include State Significant Developments, with more than $1 billion in additional investment currently in the pipeline across the region.
We're seeking motivated Senior Development Assessment Planners to join our Major Projects Team and play a key role in supporting the continued growth of the Tamworth region. In this position, you will be responsible for assessing a diverse range of complex and strategically significant development applications that will help shape the future of our communities.
Working on some of the region's most important projects, you will provide expert planning advice, collaborate closely with developers, government agencies and the community, and contribute to high-quality planning outcomes that support sustainable growth. You will also have the opportunity to mentor and support other planning professionals within a collaborative and high-performing team.
The Senior Development Assessment Planner – Major Projects is responsible for:
Contributing to the region's liveability by proactively managing land use and development to enhance the built and natural environment in line with Council's strategic vision, Blueprint 100. This role delivers highly professional and expert town planning services to applicants, customers, the development industry, stakeholders and the broader community.
You will:
- Provide expert planning advice to internal and external stakeholders.
- Assess complex, high-value and strategically significant development applications.
- Work collaboratively with developers, government agencies, consultants and the community.
- Contribute to major projects that deliver significant economic and community benefits for the region.
- Mentor and support other planning professionals within the team.
- Drive high-quality planning outcomes that support sustainable regional growth.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL NEED
- NSW Drivers Licence
- Degree and Post Graduate Diploma or 4 year Degree in Planning or related discipline
- Strong knowledge of planning legislation and development controls
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- The ability to manage complex applications and competing priorities
- A collaborative approach and passion for delivering quality planning outcomes

Salary range: Grade 17 - $102,066.50 - $110,446.38 per annum plus 12% superannuation, market allowance and leaseback vehicle* for a 35 hour work week. Salary may be negotiated based on skills, experience and your value to our organisation.
* It should be noted that an employee salary contribution is required for this motor vehicle.
Flexible working arrangements will be considered by mutual agreement and according to operational requirements.
