ConnectSydney, a joint venture of ServiceStream, Boral, and Johnson Controls, in partnership with Transport for NSW (TfNSW), is entrusted with the management of the Harbour Zone. Our responsibilities encompass routine maintenance, strategic enhancements, and specialised projects aimed at bolstering Sydney's transport infrastructure.
The Asset Engineer (Pavement) supports the management of Pavement assets by ensuring accurate asset data, timely inspections, and effective defect resolution. This role contributes to lifecycle planning, tactical works programs, and continuous improvement of asset management systems.
The Asset Engineer (Pavement) will report to Strategic Asset Manager and will assist the Network Needs Team in managing the Pavement Assets across the Sydney Harbour Zone of Sydney Road Assets Performance Contract (SRAPC). The incumbent will also provide input for the development and validation of maintenance strategies and tactical works program through the collection and assessment of asset condition data through our Asset Management System.
The successful candidate will be provided a tool of trade (vehicle) to assist with site asset inspections.

Key Responsibilities:
Asset Data & Integrity
- Ensure pavement condition data (RAMS/PMS) is accurately captured and reflected in the asset management system (JAMS).
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the asset database.
- Review the existing asset database to confirm all known assets, new assets reported through Asset Management Briefs (AMBs), and assets discovered through inspections are updated in the asset management systems.
Inspection & Defect Management
- Review yearly pavement survey data, including condition and distress ratings, and assist Pavement Asset Manager in updating the pavement model.
- Review defects reported against assets to ensure they are directed to maintenance teams or escalated for funding through tactical projects.
- Review pavement related complaints and create treatment maps as needed.
Planning & Strategy Support
- Review pavement condition and performance data to inform rehabilitation and renewal prioritization within the tactical asset management plan.
- Assist Asset Manager in preparing project briefs and managing contractors
- Assist Strategic Asset Manager with forward works planning for the tactical asset management plan.
- Assist Strategic Asset Manager in developing asset lifecycle models to produce 3- and 10-year works plans.
- Assist in creating, reviewing, and updating asset management strategies and plans.
Performance & Communication
- Assist Pavement Manager in responding to TfNSW enquiries.
- Responsible for measuring achievements against KPIs.
- Establish and maintain clear communication regarding asset condition and risks with key stakeholders, including client representatives.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the asset management system.
Field Activities
- Attend sites for work scope validation and create pavement design or treatment maps as required.
- Attend sites for third-party work verification as required.
About You:
- A degree in civil engineering or other relevant discipline (Essential).
- Pavement condition assessment, distress rating, or defect classification (Essential).
- Certification in Asset Management (Preferred)
- Familiarity with relevant TfNSW pavement specs (R-series) or Austroads pavement guides (Desirable).
- Experience and understanding of asset management in an engineering or infrastructure workplace (Desirable).
- Understanding of ISO 55001 Asset Management (Desirable).
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work within a team and collaborate with various business units.
- Results driven with ability to meet deadlines.
- Sound knowledge in MS office suite.
