About the role

The AGL Engineering Graduate Program is designed to develop the next generation of energy industry leaders through a structured two-year rotational program. Graduates gain hands-on experience across a range of engineering disciplines, assets, and projects while contributing to the transition of Australia's energy future.
The program runs over two years and consists of 3 x 8-month rotations.
Through diverse rotations, graduates are exposed to different technologies, operational environments, and business functions across AGL's Energy Assets portfolio. This unique opportunity enables participants to build technical capability, broaden their industry knowledge, and discover the career pathways that best align with their strengths and interests.
Working alongside experienced engineers, technical specialists, and operational leaders, graduates develop a well-rounded understanding of how AGL's assets are designed, operated, maintained, and transformed to meet future energy demands.
The program includes:
- Dedicated individual mentors providing professional guidance and career support
- A structured professional development program
- Technical competency framework and skills matrix to support development
- Extensive internal and external learning opportunities
- Micro-credentials and specialist training
- Comprehensive on-the-job learning supported by graduate leaders, technical supervisors, and subject matter experts
- Support and development pathways towards Chartered Engineer status
Following completion of the program, graduates possess a well-rounded view of AGL's business, career pathways, and exit the program as 'future fit' engineers, ready to support Australia's energy future.
Rotations may be available across:
- Bayswater Power Station - Muswellbrook, NSW
- Gas, Construction, Renewables and Projects - Regional Victoria, Adelaide, SA or Melbourne, VIC
- AGL Corporate Office - Melbourne, VIC
- Other operational and project locations across AGL's portfolio
Graduate housing is provided for rotations away from the graduate's home location.
What you'll be doing:
Completing assigned rotations; undertaking responsibilities including, but not limited to:
- Operating within engineering teams and performing tasks relevant to the sites
- Asset management, maintenance and optimisation of plant, systems and equipment
- Participate in the development and implementation of engineering strategies
- Projects and program support
- Design, development, testing, and optimisation activities
- Investigations and analysis, providing recommendations for improvements
- Prepare factual and technical reports, for both engineers and laypersons
About You:
Participants must have graduated within the last 3 years or be due to graduate prior to program commencement.
We recruit the following disciplines:
- Bachelor of Electrical Engineering
- Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering
- Bachelor of Civil Engineering
- Bachelor of Chemical Engineering
Successful applicants will possess:
- A strong desire to develop a career within the power generation industry
- Safety as a core value and an understanding of operational site safety requirements
- Strong planning and organisation skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills, and respect for a diverse workforce
- Genuine desire to work in current environments and embrace change
- Must be able to geographically relocate for 8-month rotations
- The ability to be respectful in shared AGL housing (unisex)
- Must have the right to work in Australia, any Visas must be valid for the full 2 years
- Own car and licence, some rotation sites are not accessible via public transport
