About the role

The Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Nurse is a key member of the River Mind-Body Clinic team, delivering high-quality care to adults receiving this novel treatment. The role combines specialised clinical nursing care with patient education, care coordination and trauma-informed support to ensure the safe, effective and compassionate delivery of TMS services.

Working closely with the treating psychiatrist and lead nurse, the TMS Nurse is responsible for the protected administration of TMS, patient assessment and monitoring, education, care coordination and clinical documentation. The nurse acts as a primary point of contact for patients throughout their treatment journey, fostering a therapeutic environment that promotes safety, dignity and clinical excellence.

This is a full-time position, Monday-Friday (38 hours per week).

Key responsibilities

- Deliver safe and effective TMS treatments in accordance with psychiatrist-prescribed treatment protocols

- Assist psychiatrists during TMS mapping procedures and determination of resting motor threshold

- Prepare patients for treatment, ensuring informed participation and ongoing comfort throughout each session

- Monitor patients before, during and following treatment for therapeutic response, adverse effects and clinical deterioration

- Recognise, manage and escalate adverse events or medical emergencies in accordance with clinic protocols

- Conduct pre-treatment nursing assessments and ongoing clinical monitoring

- Administer and monitor clinical outcome measures utilised by the clinic

- Provide education regarding TMS, treatment expectations and potential adverse effects

- Maintain accurate,



timely and compliant clinical documentation

- Coordinate treatment appointments and assist with the day-to-day organisation of patient treatment

- Respond to patient enquiries and assist with new referrals, screening and follow-up

- Assist with Medicare, DVA and private billing processes where required

About you

- Registered Nurse or Enrolled Nurse with current unrestricted AHPRA registration

- Demonstrated experience in mental health nursing or related clinical practice

- Excellent assessment and clinical decision-making skills

- Ability to recognise and respond appropriately to clinical deterioration

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

- Ability to establish therapeutic relationships with people

- Demonstrated ability to work independently, take responsibility for their work and contribute effectively as part of a team

- High level organisational and time management skills

- Excellent computer literacy and experience with electronic medical records

- Commitment to evidence-based practice

- Commitment to confidentiality, professionalism and patient-centred care

Previous TMS experience or formal TMS training is highly advantageous, although not essential.

As our interventional psychiatry services develop, there may be opportunities to train in and contribute to other emerging novel treatments within scope of practice.
