The Role
ALS is looking for a talented and passionate Senior Applications Developer to join our Software Development team. You'll be designing, building, and maintaining enterprise-grade, cloud-native applications on Microsoft Azure, while playing an active part in architectural decisions and Agile delivery. You'll bring strong .NET expertise, a quality-first mindset, and a genuine enthusiasm for modern development practices. If you take pride in owning what you build and love working in a collaborative, forward-thinking engineering team - we want to hear from you.
The Day to Day
- Designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise-grade applications using C# and .NET Core / .NET 6+
- Building and supporting cloud-native solutions on Microsoft Azure, including hands-on configuration and management of Azure services
- Developing and maintaining modern, responsive user interfaces using Vue.js, Angular, or React (UI/UX expertise is highly valued for this role)
- Designing and implementing scalable microservices, distributed systems, and RESTful APIs
- Implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, build and release processes, and automated deployment workflows via Azure DevOps
- Writing and maintaining automated tests - unit, integration, component, and end-to-end - with a commitment to TDD, shift-left testing, and code quality analysis
- Leveraging AI-powered development tools such as GitHub Copilot to accelerate code generation, refactoring, documentation, and test creation - while ensuring all AI-generated output meets the same quality and security standards as hand-crafted code
- Participating in code reviews, architectural discussions, and technical decision-making processes
- Collaborating closely with Product Owners, Business Analysts, and QA Engineers within an Agile/SAFe delivery environment
- Contributing to the continuous improvement of development standards, tools, and engineering practices across the team
The Essentials
- 5+ years of experience in software development with strong proficiency in C# and .NET (Core / .NET 6+)
- Hands-on experience with Vue.js, Angular, or React - UI/UX expertise is a strong advantage and highly sought after for this intake
- Solid knowledge of Microsoft Azure services including Azure Functions, Service Bus, Event Hubs, Container Apps,
AKS, and Application Insights
- Experience designing and building RESTful APIs and microservices-based architectures
- Strong database skills across relational (SQL Server) and NoSQL (MongoDB) platforms, with a focus on performance optimisation
- Proven experience with CI/CD pipelines, Azure DevOps, Git, Docker, and Kubernetes
- Demonstrated commitment to software quality and testing - including TDD, automated test suites, and tools such as SonarQube
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot) and an understanding of responsible, quality-assured use of AI-generated code
- Practical experience working in Agile environments, with familiarity with Secure, PI Planning, and Agile Release Trains (desirable)
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills - with a "you build it, you own it" approach to software delivery
