The Opportunity
As Lead Data Governance & Enablement, you will lead the development and implementation of data governance practices across Thiess, ensuring critical business data is trusted, understood and effectively managed.
Working closely with business leaders, data owners, operational stakeholders and technology teams, you will establish governance frameworks, improve data quality, drive data literacy initiatives and support the safe and responsible adoption of AI and emerging technologies.
This role combines strategy, stakeholder engagement, change management and governance leadership to help unlock the full value of data across our global business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the organisation's data governance and enablement capability.
- Establish and embed data ownership, stewardship and accountability frameworks across key business domains.
- Drive improvements in data quality, metadata management, data cataloguing and governance maturity.
- Facilitate governance forums, workshops and working groups to support informed decision making.
- Develop and deliver a data literacy strategy that builds capability and confidence across the business.
- Create training materials, communications and resources to support data governance adoption.
- Partner with business leaders and technical teams to improve trust, consistency and accessibility of critical data assets.
- Define and implement data quality standards, metrics and issue management processes.
- Support responsible AI and Large Language Model (LLM) initiatives through strong governance, quality and data management practices.
- Prepare governance reports, recommendations and insights for leadership and governance forums.
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement, responsible data use and data-driven decision making.
About You
You're a collaborative leader who can influence stakeholders, drive data governance outcomes and help the business realise the value of trusted data.
To be successful, you'll bring:
- Experience leading data governance, stewardship, metadata or data quality initiatives in a complex organisation.
- Experience within the mining, resources or heavy industry sector will be highly regarded.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence change and embed accountability.
- Knowledge of data governance frameworks, data quality practices, metadata management and enterprise data platforms.
- Experience supporting data literacy, change management and the adoption of analytics or AI solutions.
- Excellent communication, facilitation and problem-solving skills.
Qualifications
Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Data Management, Business, Engineering or a related discipline are preferred. Certifications in Data Governance, Data Management, Change Management or Project Management, along with experience in data quality, metadata, catalogue or AI governance tools, will be highly regarded.
