About the role
Capital Strategic Bookkeeping is seeking a Senior Bookkeeper to join our finance team on a part-time or casual basis in Canberra, ACT 2600 . In this role, you will play a crucial part in maintaining the financial integrity of our organisation by managing day-to-day bookkeeping operations and providing essential financial support to our valued clients. This position offers the flexibility of part-time or casual work whilst contributing significantly to the accuracy and efficiency of our financial records and reporting processes.
What you'll be doing
- Recording and reconciling financial transactions, including accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Managing bank reconciliations and ensuring all transactions are accurately posted to the general ledger
- Preparing monthly financial statements and balance sheets for review by management
- Processing invoices, receipts and payments in a timely and accurate manner
- Maintaining and updating the chart of accounts and financial records
- Assisting with the preparation of financial documentation for audits and tax compliance
- Identifying and resolving discrepancies in financial records and recommending process improvements
- Ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and internal financial procedures
What we're looking for
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in a bookkeeping or accounting role, with demonstrated expertise in managing full bookkeeping functions
- Proficiency with accounting software systems, including experience with cloud-based platforms such as Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks or similar
- Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and GST compliance requirements
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial management tools
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to maintain accuracy when processing high volumes of transactions
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively in a part-time capacity
- Demonstrated ability to communicate financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders
- Professional certification such as a Diploma of Accounting or a Certificate in Bookkeeping would be highly advantageous
- Experience in a not-for-profit or community services environment is preferred but not essential
