Lead GIS Specialist, Remote Sensing (DRAFT)
Biodiversity & Carbon Team · Toowoomba, Melbourne or remote work · 0.8–1.0 FTE
Build and lead the spatial analysis tools shaping the future of carbon and biodiversity measurement.
About us
Integrity Ag is a science-led consultancy helping the agricultural sector measure, manage and reduce its environmental footprint and benefit from markets that reward landholders achieving better outcomes. Our Biodiversity & Carbon team delivers rigorous, defensible carbon and biodiversity outcomes for clients across Australia — guided by our values of Integrity, Innovation and Care.
About the role
Spatial assessment and reporting of land use (including forest) and other ag-related assets like soil and biodiversity is a key part of what we do. We are looking for a Lead GIS Specialist who can turn complex spatial and field data into robust, audit-ready insights — and who wants to take ownership of the leading in-house spatial analysis tools we are building, and lead the proposals and client relationships that grow this service line.
Reporting to a Principal, you will:
- Lead the ongoing management and continuous improvement of our leading in-house spatial analysis tools and platforms — building, improving, documenting and scaling them so they remain first-class, market-ready products. This is primarily continuous improvement of tools already in production, not blank-page invention.
- Conduct statistical and spatial modelling using remote sensing across optical (Sentinel-2, Landsat), radar (Sentinel-1 SAR) and LiDAR data, applying machine learning and image classification where it adds value, and use of biomass models such as FullCAM.
- Work fluently across ArcGIS, QGIS, cloud Earth-observation platforms (e.g. Google Earth Engine), FullCAM, and Python and/or R.
- Lead the development and delivery of proposals and tender responses for spatial, carbon and biodiversity work — scoping technical approach, estimating effort and cost, and coordinating competitive bids end-to-end — as a core, ongoing part of the role.
- Own client relationships and communications on your projects, from data collection through to delivery, amendments and sign-off.
- Deliver landuse (LULUC), carbon, vegetation and biodiversity consulting projects — including farm condition data,
HIR, tree planting and soil carbon — to ACCU Scheme and MRV (Monitoring, Reporting and Verification) standards, and emerging insetting standards.
- Design and manage databases, reporting and integrations (SQL, Power BI, APIs) to help the business scale to meet client needs.
- Quantify and document the uncertainty and accuracy of your estimates so our work stays defensible and audit-ready.
- Manage project budgets — including, where you are leading a project, the budgets and time of other team members and subcontractors working alongside you.
About you
A degree in Data Science, Remote Sensing, Geospatial Science, Environmental Science, Computer Science or a related discipline (postgraduate qualifications well regarded), 5 or more years’ professional experience, and the drive to prioritise workflows to deliver outcomes and continuously improve tools through to completion.
You'll thrive in this role if
- You get more satisfaction from strengthening, scaling and hardening a system than starting one from a blank page — this role is mostly continuous improvement of tools we've already built.
- You have sound judgement under messy data, and genuine follow-through — model updates, projects and platform improvements get finished to a defensible, audit-ready standard, not just started.
- You're willing and able to step up and lead a tender, a proposal, or a client relationship — even if that's not the part of the job you enjoy most.
The Essentials
- Geospatial analytics & remote sensing: delivering projects using GIS and remote sensing techniques across raster, vector, multispectral and LiDAR datasets, with a strong understanding of Australian coordinate reference systems.
- Software engineering: strong Python development, including geospatial libraries and automated processing workflows; building robust, production-quality code with version control (Git), testing,
and deployment of analytical systems in an Agile environment.
- Data engineering: designing and managing spatial databases using PostgreSQL/PostGIS; SQL development, APIs, automated data pipelines, and geospatial web services such as GeoServer.
- Proposals, tenders & client leadership: demonstrated experience leading (not only contributing to) proposals and tender responses, and owning client relationships and communications through the life of a project.
- Consulting and/or project management: leading project delivery and managing project and team-member budgets and timeframes, and supporting other team members.
- Australian carbon offset projects: delivery of HIR, Savanna Burning, Environmental Plantings and similar methods.
- Supervised classification experience.
- Broader consulting and project management across multiple concurrent clients.
The Desirables
- Emissions modelling: FullCAM, SavCAM and relevant emission accounting frameworks (GHG SLRS, ISO 14067, etc.).
- Developing vegetation monitoring systems.
- Front-end web development for geospatial-based websites.
- Automated code-based reporting.
What's on offer
- Flexible location — Toowoomba or Melbourne offices or work from home-from-home — and part-time or full-time (0.8–1.0 FTE).
- Meaningful work at the cutting edge of carbon and biodiversity measurement, and real ownership of the proposals and client relationships that grow it.
- A supportive, values-driven team collaborating on innovative, advanced projects.

If this work interests you but you are not sure the level or title is quite right — whether you are an emerging data engineering specialist or an experienced technical or research leader — we would still like to hear from you. For the right person we are open to shaping the role, level and remuneration to fit. Send us your CV and a short note on what you would bring, and we will arrange a confidential chat.
How to apply
Click Apply and include your CV and a short cover letter that tells us about a spatial tool-set or challenging analysis you have built and delivered end-to-end — and, if you have one, a proposal or tender you led. We review applications as they arrive, so please apply early.
