Mechanical Draftsperson / Graduate Engineer
GP Milling & Engineering | SolidWorks | 3D Site Scanning
GP Milling & Engineering is seeking a motivated Mechanical Draftsperson / Graduate Mechanical Engineer to join our team.
This is a practical, varied role combining mechanical design, drafting, 3D site scanning and project work . We’re looking for someone who enjoys getting out on site, understanding how equipment and structures fit together, and turning that information into accurate, practical designs.
The Role
Working as part of the GP Milling & Engineering team, you will be involved in projects from initial site investigation and measurement through to design, fabrication and installation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Creating 3D models, assemblies and detailed drawings using SolidWorks
- Conducting 3D site scans and capturing existing plant, equipment and structures
- Processing point-cloud/scan data and developing accurate as-built 3D models
- Undertaking site measurements, inspections and verification
- Producing fabrication, machining, assembly and installation drawings
- Reverse engineering existing components and equipment
- Developing mechanical layouts and equipment arrangements
- Designing practical components for machining and fabrication
- Working closely with our workshop, tradespeople, engineers and clients
- Assisting with mechanical engineering calculations, design and equipment selection
- Managing drawing revisions and project documentation
- Supporting projects through design, manufacture, installation and commissioning
About You
This position would suit either an experienced Mechanical Draftsperson or a Graduate Mechanical Engineer looking to build strong practical engineering experience.
Ideally, you will have:
- Experience with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software
- A qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Drafting or a related field
- Strong mechanical aptitude and spatial awareness
- An interest in machining, fabrication and practical engineering
- Valuable attention to detail and accuracy
- The ability to work independently both in the office and on site
- A practical, hands-on approach to problem solving
- Good communication skills
- A current driver’s licence
Experience with 3D scanning, point clouds, reverse engineering, machining, milling, fabrication, structural steel or mechanical equipment would be highly regarded, although training can be provided.
Why GP Milling & Engineering?
At GP Milling & Engineering , you won’t be limited to sitting behind a desk producing drawings.
You’ll have the opportunity to see projects through from the real-world problem to the finished solution — site scanning and measurement, SolidWorks design, engineering, machining, fabrication and installation .
For a graduate engineer, it’s an opportunity to develop practical engineering judgement and understand how things are actually manufactured and installed.
For an experienced draftsperson, it’s an opportunity to work across varied engineering projects while developing skills in modern 3D scanning and reverse-engineering technology .
If you’re mechanically minded, enjoy solving practical problems and want to be involved in the complete engineering process, we’d like to hear from you.
Apply with your CV and a brief introduction outlining your experience with SolidWorks, drafting, mechanical engineering and any relevant site, machining or fabrication experience.
