Looking for a trade that's hands-on, varied and a little outside the ordinary?
Capital Solid Surface is looking for an Apprentice Cabinet Maker – Solid Surface Fabrication to join our team in Queanbeyan.
You'll complete a Certificate III in Cabinet Making and Timber Technology (MSF30322) while learning the specialist skills involved in solid surface fabrication.
At CSS, we work with materials such as Corian, Staron and HI-MACS to manufacture everything from benchtops and vanities to reception counters, integrated sinks, wall linings and completely custom pieces.
No previous solid surface experience is required — that's what we're here to teach you.
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
This is a hands-on apprenticeship. You'll learn how to:
- Cut, shape, join, sand and finish solid surface
- Read drawings, measurements and job information
- Use hand tools, power tools and workshop machinery
- Work with CNC manufacturing equipment
- Learn thermoforming and custom fabrication techniques
- Manufacture integrated sinks and detailed components
- Assist with installation and site joining
- Take a job from raw material through to finished product
As your skills develop, you'll take on increasingly complex work and greater responsibility.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We're much more interested in who you are and how you work than having a perfect résumé.
You'll suit us if you:
- Like making things and working with your hands
- Have good practical or mechanical aptitude
- Are reliable and willing to learn
- Pay attention to detail
- Take pride in doing things properly
- Can follow instructions and ask questions when you're unsure
- Enjoy being part of a team
- Want to build genuine skills and a long-term career
Previous experience in construction, manufacturing, labouring, joinery or another hands-on environment is great, but it's not essential .
Adult apprentices and career changers are strongly encouraged to apply. If you've spent a few years working and have decided you want to learn a trade and build a proper qualification, we'd genuinely like to hear from you.
WHY CSS?
We're a small specialist team, which means you won't spend your entire apprenticeship doing the same basic task over and over.
You'll get hands-on experience with real projects, specialist fabrication techniques, CNC machinery and custom manufacturing , supported by experienced people who can teach you the trade.
You'll also get:
- Permanent full-time employment
- A nationally recognised trade qualification
- Award apprentice rates + applicable allowances + super
- Hands-on training and ongoing skills development
- Varied workshop and site experience
- Opportunity to develop into a skilled Solid Surface Fabricator
- Company Social Club with an annual coast trip
- And yes — there are always free cookies and bevvies in the tea room!
INTERESTED?
If you're practical, keen to learn and want a job where you can build real skills, make compelling things and come out the other end with a trade qualification , we'd love to hear from you.
Apply with your resume and tell us a little about yourself and why this apprenticeship interests you.
Don't worry if you don't have trade experience. Apply anyway. We're hiring for potential as much as experience.
Any offer of employment is subject to satisfactory reference checks, a pre-employment medical/physical assessment, verification of right to work in Australia and relevant licences/certifications.
