Suncoast Christian College is seeking an experienced and passionate Head of Secondary Learning Support to lead our Secondary Learning Support team from January 2027. This is a full time (1.0FTE) role.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced learning support specialist and people leader who is passionate about inclusive education and committed to ensuring students with diverse learning needs are supported to achieve their potential.
As the Head of Secondary Learning Support, you will provide strategic and day-to-day leadership across learning support in Years 7-12. You will work closely with teachers, students, families and school leaders to develop and implement effective learning programs, identify students requiring additional support and ensure appropriate adjustments and interventions are in place.
Importantly, this role has a significant people leadership component . You will lead the Secondary Learning Support Teachers and Secondary Teacher Assistant team, providing direction, coordinating their work and fostering a collaborative, capable and supportive team culture.
About the role:
Reporting to the Head of Secondary, you will:
- Lead and manage the Secondary Learning Support function, ensuring students with diverse academic, behavioural and social/emotional needs receive appropriate support.
- Lead the Secondary Learning Support Teachers and Secondary Teacher Assistant team by facilitating meetings, constructing rosters, allocating duties and supporting all Learning Support staff in their daily work.
- Provide effective people leadership, building a positive, collaborative and accountable team culture.
- Develop, implement and oversee individual and targeted learning programs for students.
- Plan, assess and report on student achievement for students on modified programs.
- Identify students at academic risk and develop appropriate learning plans and interventions.
- Provide diagnostic testing and use assessment information to inform effective support strategies.
- Support teachers to differentiate curriculum and implement evidence-based strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
- Oversee and manage Access Arrangements and Reasonable Adjustments (AARA) for senior students.
- Oversee reasonable adjustments for NAPLAN and other relevant assessment requirements.
- Manage NCCD processes and the annual collation and uploading of NCCD data.
- Liaise with students, parents, teachers, school leaders, feeder schools and external organisations to ensure a coordinated approach to student support.
- Advocate for students with additional learning needs and promote inclusive practices across the Secondary School.
- Contribute to enrolment processes, including assessing and determining learning support needs for prospective students.
- Provide specialised support to teachers when engaging with parents and carers of students with additional needs.
- Lead a collaborative approach to identifying needs and developing effective support for students.
About you:
We are looking for an experienced educator who combines strong learning support expertise with genuine people leadership capability. You are grounded in your faith, relational in your approach and clear in your purpose.
You will bring:
- A natural approach that draws people together - building a cohesive, high functioning and trusting team.
- Appropriate teaching qualifications and experience in Secondary Learning Support, Inclusive Education, Special Education or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience leading and developing a team of education professionals.
- Strong people management skills, including the ability to provide direction, have challenging conversations with care, manage competing priorities and support staff to perform at their best.
- Demonstrated understanding of contemporary inclusive education practices and strategies for supporting students with diverse learning needs.
- Experience developing and implementing individual learning plans, modified programs and evidence-based interventions.
- Strong knowledge of assessment, NCCD, AARA and reasonable adjustment processes.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with students, staff and families.
- Solid organisational and administrative skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- A collaborative and solutions-focused approach to working with teachers and school leaders.
- The confidence to make sound decisions, provide leadership and advocate appropriately for students and staff.
- A commitment to continuous improvement and to developing the capability of the Learning Support team.

- Be a committed Christian who supports the aims and ethos of Christian education.
- Hold appropriate teaching qualifications (current QCT registration) and relevant experience in Secondary Learning Support.
- Demonstrate the leadership capability and experience required to lead a team effectively.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to inclusive education and student wellbeing.
- Be able to work collaboratively within a Christian school environment.
