About Guiding Light Care
Guiding Light Care provides genuine, person-centred support for NDIS participants across Newcastle, Maitland, Lake Macquarie and the Hunter. We work differently—pairing consistent staffing with specialist clinical oversight. Every team is supported by a Mental Health Registered Nurse and an NDIS Behaviour Support Practitioner who know our participants, not just their plans.
Our focus is safety, stability, and small steps that build real progress. We believe in calm homes, predictable routines, and people who care enough to stay.
The Role
You’ll walk alongside adults with psychosocial disability, autism, intellectual disability, and complex needs—helping them build skills, maintain routines, and connect with the world around them.
Shifts include days, afternoons, sleepovers, weekends, and public holidays across SIL, ILO, drop-in support, and community access.
What You’ll Do
- Deliver respectful personal care, medication prompts, meal prep, and domestic tasks.
- Support participants to engage in their communities—appointments, shopping, recreation, and social connection.
- Use calm, confident communication and low-restrictive strategies during periods of distress.
- Follow Positive Behaviour Support Plans and uphold dignity and choice in every interaction.
- Record accurate notes and risk observations aligned with NDIS Practice Standards and the Code of Conduct.
- Work as part of a consistent, clinically supported team with clear communication and professional boundaries.
What You’ll Bring
- Experience in disability, mental health, aged care, youth work, or community services.
- Calm, reliable communication and solid emotional steadiness.
- A commitment to showing up—on time, prepared, and focused on safety.
- A current driver’s licence and reliable, comprehensively insured vehicle.
- NDIS Worker Screening Check and Working With Children Check (or ability to obtain).
- Completion of the NDIS Worker Orientation Module before starting.
Why Join Us
- Mentorship and debriefing from a Mental Health RN and Behaviour Support Practitioner.
- Predictable rosters where possible—no guessing games.
- Paid induction, hands-on training, and ongoing coaching that actually helps.
- SCHADS Award pay with penalties, super, and km reimbursement.
- Clear escalation pathways and rapid support when you need it most.
- A team that values calm over chaos, consistency over burnout, and purpose over paperwork.
