MacKillop Catholic College is seeking a passionate and experienced Speech Pathologist to join our Inclusion Support team on a part-time basis, working two days per week.
This is an exciting opportunity for a Speech Pathologist who is passionate about working with young people and wants to make a meaningful difference within a secondary school environment.
Working closely with our Inclusion Department, you will provide practical, student-centred support to help students develop their communication skills and overcome barriers to learning, participation and social connection.
About the Role
The successful applicant will work collaboratively with our Inclusion Support team, teachers, students and families to identify and support students' communication and learning needs.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Assessing and identifying students' speech, language, communication and literacy needs.
- Providing targeted support and intervention for identified students.
- Developing practical strategies to support communication and classroom participation.
- Supporting students with receptive and expressive language difficulties.
- Supporting social communication, pragmatic language and interpersonal communication skills.
- Providing advice and practical strategies to teachers and Inclusion Support staff.
- Working collaboratively with teachers to embed communication strategies into everyday classroom practice.
- Supporting students with communication needs associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, developmental disabilities and other learning needs.
- Developing individualised strategies and recommendations to support student engagement and independence.
- Working alongside Inclusion Support Assistants to implement recommended strategies.
- Contributing to student learning and support plans where appropriate.
- Consulting with families and other professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to student support.
- Maintaining appropriate professional documentation and records.
- Providing professional advice and guidance to staff regarding communication and language needs.
- Contributing to a positive, inclusive and supportive learning setting.
About You
We are looking for a Speech Pathologist who is:
- Appropriately qualified and eligible for professional registration with Speech Pathology Australia.
- Passionate about working with adolescents and young people.
- Experienced or interested in working within an educational setting.
- Able to build positive and trusting relationships with students.
- Practical, collaborative and solutions-focused.
- Confident providing professional advice and guidance to teachers and support staff.
- Experienced in supporting students with diverse communication and learning needs.
- Able to work independently while contributing effectively to a multidisciplinary team.
- Committed to inclusive education and ensuring every student has the opportunity to participate and succeed.
Experience working with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, language disorders, social communication difficulties, literacy needs, developmental disabilities or complex learning needs will be highly regarded.
