Lead/Principal Mine Engineer

TSS Group is recruiting for an experienced Lead / Principal Mine Engineer to join an iron ore operation in the Pilbara on a contract basis.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Lead/Principal Mine Engineer to take ownership of mine planning, scheduling and technical engineering activities for a large-scale open pit iron ore operation. This is a hands-on engineering role where you will be responsible for developing practical mine plans, pit designs and production schedules while also fulfilling the statutory responsibilities of the Quarry Manager and Site Senior Executive (SSE) .

Working closely with Operations, Geology, Survey and mining contractors, you will provide the technical direction that underpins safe and efficient mining activities while remaining actively involved in the day-to-day engineering and planning functions.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and maintain short, medium and long-term mine plans and production schedules.

- Prepare pit designs, phase designs, haul road layouts and dump designs.

- Develop drill and blast designs and provide ongoing technical support to mining operations.

- Monitor mining performance, reconcile production against plan and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

- Optimise pit sequencing, mining methodologies and equipment utilisation to maximise productivity and resource recovery.

- Work closely with Operations,



Geology, Survey and contractors to ensure mining activities are delivered in accordance with the mine plan.

- Prepare production forecasts, engineering reports and operational performance analysis.

- Provide technical guidance and support to site operational teams.

- Fulfil the statutory responsibilities of the WA Quarry Manager and Site Senior Executive (SSE).

- Ensure compliance with WA mining legislation, site standards and company procedures while promoting a strong safety culture.

Key Requirements

- Degree in Mining Engineering.

- WA Quarry Manager Certificate of Competency – Essential.

- Site Senior Executive (SSE) qualification – Essential.

- Demonstrated experience as a Lead, Principal or Senior Mine Engineer within an open pit mining operation.

- Extensive experience developing mine plans, production schedules, mine designs and drill & blast designs.

- Strong experience using Alastri, Deswik, Vulcan, MineSched or similar mine planning software.

- Sound understanding of contractor mining operations and production optimisation.

- Solid technical, analytical and stakeholder management skills.

- Current C-Class Driver's Licence.
