About the Role

Reporting to the Team Leader Horticulture, we are seeking an experienced horticulturist to join our highly skilled and diverse Horticulture Team. Working across the Light Regional Council area, you will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing the region's parks, gardens and recreational spaces, helping to create attractive, functional and sustainable environments for our community. This hands-on role is responsible for the maintenance and presentation of Council's horticultural assets, ensuring they are maintained to a high standard while promoting environmental sustainability and enhancing the amenity of our region.

The role is based at Freeling, about a 10-15 minute drive from Gawler.

About You

You will undertake a variety of tasks associated with the maintenance of Council's assets and infrastructure,



operate plant and equipment within your level of competency, and demonstrate a strong commitment to workplace health and safety.

The successful applicant will be a highly motivated and proactive team member who can meet the inherent requirements of the role and demonstrates a commitment to the Vision, Mission and Values of Light Regional Council.

Key areas of responsibility include:

- Supporting the delivery of Council's horticultural works program

- Assisting with the maintenance of Council's parks, gardens, cemeteries and open spaces

- Mowing parks, reserves, roadsides or other public areas, including operating a self-propelled mowers and slashers

- Carrying out tree trimming and weed management activities across parks, reserves, footpaths and roadsides

- Maintaining and repairing irrigation systems

- Ensure protected work practices and compliance with WHS procedures

- Participate in after-hours on-call roster and emergency response as required

To be successful in this role, you will need:

- Certificate III in Horticulture, Arboriculture (or similar) with relevant experience (desirable)

- Medium Rigid licence (essential) or Heavy Rigid licence (desirable)

- Experience in Work Zone Traffic Management and the setup and maintenance of traffic control devices





- Earthmoving plant tickets and experience operating loaders, backhoes, skid steers and power tools

- Competence in using electronic devices and computer software systems

- Strong understanding of safe work practices and compliance with WHS procedures

- A team-focused attitude with solid communication and problem-solving skills
