Purpose of the role:
This key role will provide Culturally safe, strength-based trauma informed counselling support utilising YOKAI model of care & ways of working which is specific to supporting Stolen Generations Survivors & Descendants. Support Survivors who may be experiencing past or present trauma, also those triggered by the application process when applying for the current WA Stolen Generations Redress Scheme.
Key Responsibilities:
· Provide high quality counselling and mental health services to client impacted or triggered by WA Stolen Generations redress scheme process & application.
· Conduct psychological & risk assessments, including suicide & self-harm risk, safety & wellbeing needs.
· Develop team-oriented care/support plan with clients, incorporating clinical, cultural, social & practical supports
· Group work skills, and ability to lead or facilitate group therapy sessions

- Conflict resolution & de-escalation skills
- Network and community liaison skills
- Ability to work as part of a team and to build strong relationships with colleagues and clients
- High levels of personal integrity and committed to YOKAI values.
- Proficient computer skills including the use of Microsoft office applications
Organisational Requirements

- Participate in performance development processes and agreed work plans.
- Travel within W.A as required, including to regional or remote communities, sometimes outside standard business hours.
Essential
· Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology or Counselling equivalent;
· Minimum 3 years counselling experience working with complex trauma
· Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal people and the ability to communicate effectively and in a culturally appropriately manner.
· Demonstrated knowledge of current issues, standards, and trends in the delivery of mental health and social and emotional wellbeing services to Aboriginal people.
· Demonstrated awareness and knowledge of issues impacting on those affected by Stolen Generations' policies and practices.
· Demonstrated ability to work within and maintain strict confidentiality guidelines and policies.
· Awareness of and can work to YOKAI’s mission of truth justice and healing.
· Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with clients, carers, and other professionals from diverse cultures.
Desirable
· Identify as a Aboriginal person.
· Current driver licence
