About the Role

Frederick Irwin Anglican School is seeking an experienced, cutting-edge and passionate educator to undertake the role of Acting Head of Arts (Years 7–12) for the 2027 school year, covering a period of extended leave.

The Head of Arts is a key leadership position within the Secondary School and plays an important role in shaping teaching and learning outcomes across the Arts Learning Area. The successful applicant will provide leadership to Arts staff, oversee curriculum development and implementation, foster excellence in teaching practice, and promote student participation and achievement in Arts programs.

The ideal candidate will be an exemplary classroom practitioner who is future-focused, evidence-informed, highly organised and committed to continuous improvement. They will demonstrate outstanding interpersonal skills, a collaborative leadership style, and a commitment to supporting the School's Anglican ethos and values.

Applicants must be qualified and experienced in teaching within an Arts discipline, with the capacity to teach Music or Drama in the Secondary School.

This is a full-time acting leadership position for the 2027 school year.

Frederick Irwin Anglican School teacher salaries are generally 2.5% above comparable Department of Education of Western Australia rates.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership

- Lead the Arts Department in alignment with the School's vision, mission and strategic priorities.
- Develop and implement departmental operational plans that support School improvement goals.
- Participate in Curriculum Team and leadership meetings.
- Work collaboratively with School leaders to enhance curriculum continuity and student outcomes.




- Assist with the recruitment, induction and development of Arts staff.

Teaching and Learning

- Model exemplary teaching practice and evidence-based pedagogy.
- Lead curriculum development, assessment and moderation processes across Arts subjects.
- Oversee course implementation, reporting requirements and student achievement monitoring.
- Support staff in curriculum design, assessment practices and effective use of student data.
- Promote innovation and excellence in teaching and learning.
- Coordinate exhibitions, performances, competitions and co-curricular Arts opportunities that showcase student achievement.

Staff Leadership and Relationships

- Lead, mentor and support Arts teachers to achieve high standards of professional practice.
- Facilitate departmental meetings and professional growth opportunities.
- Support staff performance, goal setting and professional development.
- Foster positive relationships with students, parents and colleagues.
- Provide guidance in student wellbeing, engagement and behaviour management.

Organisation and Administration

- Manage departmental budgets and resources.
- Oversee facilities, equipment and teaching resources within the Arts Learning Area.
- Coordinate Arts-related events, performances, exhibitions and excursions.
- Support School processes including subject selection, examinations and reporting.
- Ensure compliance with School policies, procedures and child-safe practices.

Pastoral Care

As an Anglican School, pastoral care is extremely important at Frederick Irwin Anglican School. This is a role of the teachers who manage the supervision and welfare of the students while at school.

- Be a highly effective and experienced secondary teacher.

- Hold current Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia registration.
- Hold a current Working with Children Check.
- Demonstrate excellent communication, organisation and interpersonal skills.
- Be committed to continuous improvement and professional learning.
- Work effectively within a collaborative team environment.
- Support and uphold the Christian ethos of the School.
