About the business The business (ABN ) is a takeaway food outlet located in a busy shopping centre food court in Palmerston.
They serve a range of freshly prepared takeaway products, including loaded chips, fish and chips, fried chicken, seafood baskets, hotdogs, ice cream and milkshakes. They are seeking a reliable and hardworking Kitchenhand to support their food preparation and service team. About the Role
The Kitchenhand will assist with basic food preparation, maintain clean and hygienic kitchen and service areas, wash utensils and equipment, receive supplies and support the preparation and service of takeaway food. The position involves standing for extended periods, working in a fast-paced environment and safely handling kitchen equipment, cleaning products and food supplies. The successful applicant must be available across a rotating roster, including weekends, public holidays and evening shifts where required.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean kitchen, food-preparation, storage and service areas.
- Wash and sanitise cooking equipment, utensils, containers and other kitchen items.
- Assist with preparing ingredients for cooking and service.
- Portion, assemble and pack food items for customer orders.
- Assist with preparing simple menu items under direction.
- Cook, toast or heat simple food items in accordance with workplace procedures.
- Prepare takeaway packaging, food trays and service materials.
- Receive, transfer, weigh, check and correctly store food supplies.
- Rotate stock and assist with monitoring expiry dates and stock levels.
- Dispose of waste, clean bins and maintain waste-storage areas.
- Maintain clean floors, benches, sinks, fryers and other work areas.
- Assist kitchen and counter staff during busy service periods.
- Follow food-safety, allergen, hygiene and workplace health and safety procedures.
- Report equipment faults, stock shortages and safety issues to the supervisor.
- Complete opening, closing and cleaning duties as allocated.
Skills and Experience The successful applicant must have:
- Previous experience as a Kitchenhand, food-preparation assistant or in a similar takeaway, hospitality or food-service role;
- Knowledge of basic kitchen hygiene and food-safety practices;
- The ability to follow instructions and workplace procedures;
- The ability to safely use cleaning products and basic kitchen equipment;
- Good attention to cleanliness and food-handling requirements;
- The physical capacity to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive manual duties;
The ability to work efficiently during busy service periods; Positive teamwork and communication skills; A reliable and punctual approach to work; and Availability to work weekends, public holidays and shifts according to the business roster. A food-handling or food-safety certificate is desirable. Relevant workplace training may be provided.
