At Geraldton Fishermen’s Co-operative (GFC), we’re a little different — and we like it that way.

Created by members, run for members, we’re 100% owned by the fishers who supply us. We handle around 70% of WA’s rock lobster catch, making us the world’s largest rock lobster processor -and a business deeply connected to people, communities and coastline.

We're looking for a Financial Accountant to join our Finance team and play a key role in supporting the financial health and future growth of the business.

- Location: Geraldton or Perth (Welshpool)

About the role

This is a broad and hands-on finance role that will suit someone who enjoys having visibility across all aspects of financial accounting.

You'll be responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance, audit readiness and strong financial controls, while also partnering with stakeholders across the business to provide insight and support better decision-making.

This role offers the opportunity to help shape how GFC approaches sustainability reporting, a strong interest or experience in this area and a proactive approach to developing knowledge and expertise will be highly regarded.

This is also a role with genuine development opportunity. You'll work closely with our GM Finance & IT and be exposed to a wide range of strategic and operational finance activities, creating a pathway for future growth and increased leadership responsibility.

What you’ll be doing

You'll contribute across a broad range of financial activities, including:

Financial reporting & compliance

- Lead month-end reporting, reconciliations, financial analysis and the preparation of accurate, timely financial reports and insights

- Support statutory reporting, tax and regulatory compliance,



and coordinate year-end audit activities and external stakeholder engagement

Treasury, budgeting & business support

- Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, banking compliance and treasury activities

- Provide financial guidance, reporting and analysis to support operational teams and informed business decision-making

Systems, controls & continuous improvement

- Support financial systems, controls and governance frameworks while identifying and implementing process and reporting improvements across the business

Sustainability reporting

- Support the development and continuous improvement of GFC's sustainability reporting framework, roadmap, processes and controls to meet evolving reporting requirements

- Improve the quality, integrity and accessibility of sustainability and ESG data while partnering with stakeholders to enhance reporting capability across the business

Team support & leadership

- Provide guidance and mentoring to junior team members, support cross-functional projects and business initiatives

- Contribute to building a high-performing and cooperative finance function

What you’ll bring

We are ideally looking for someone with the following skills and capabilities:

- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline

- CA or CPA qualification (or currently working towards)

- Strong experience in financial accounting, reporting and compliance

- Sound understanding of taxation requirements and financial controls

- Strong understanding of payroll processes, statutory obligations, and compliance requirements

- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail

- Advanced Excel skills and exposure to ERP systems

- The ability to build strong relationships across the business

- A proactive, improvement-focused mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement

Bonus points if you have exposure to:

- Sustainability, ESG, emissions or non-financial reporting
